Just back from a credit card jaunt into northern Italy.

We started in Innsbruck and were planning to ride over Brenner Pass to Brixen but the sleet and low temperatures meant we diverted and took the train from the Plateau below the Brenner summit and back down until it stopped raining.

We got off the train and rode down through Fortezza, stopped for wine at the Monestary and then to Brixen.

Two nights in Brixen meant we could ditch the packing kit and go up the local mountain where there is a mountain bike park. We’d planned for this and used our mountain bikes btw, don’t do that on touring wheels! This meant we played in the snow and had some fun descending.

Final day we rode down to Trentino which was a wonderful city, and had a great meal and some drinks before we got the train back to Innsbruck.

Ideal bike packing trip for novice or nervous as you are always alongside the railway and hence lots of options always open up (mind you the option of a direct train to sunny Bologna when feeling a bit hyperthermic at Brenner was damn tempting).
