Mountain biking in Osogovo mountain, Bulgaria. Osogovo is the fifth highest mountain in Bulgaria with a highest point of 2251 m above sea level – Ruen peak (in some sources the height is 2252 m). The mountain is situated in southwestern Bulgaria and also in northwestern Macedonia. The border between the two countries is passing right on the top of the mountain. The nature and climate conditions allow for all-year tourism. There are ski-zones near Osogovo hut in the Bulgarian part of the mountain. In the summer the mountain is a very good place for mountain biking and hiking! There are many gravel roads even on the highest part of the mountain. Important towns at the foot of Osogovo are Kyustendil to the northeast in Bulgaria and Kočani and Kriva Palanka to the west and southwest in the Republic of Macedonia.
I’ve made a short video of our biking trip in the mountain. An exit point for us was the town of Kyustendil. From there in the first day we climbed to Osogovo hut on a asphalt road and on the second day we manage to climb the highest point of the mountain – Ruen peak. It was not difficult, the climb was gradual and smooth, but for one day from Kyustendil it will be very difficult to do. For a well trained rider it’s not impossible.

Планинско колоездене в Осоговската планина и изкачване на връх Руен – най-високата точка на планината, 2251 м над морското равнище. Изкачването на върха с колело или пеша не е трудно, през цялото време се върви по черен път. Има и по-пряки пътечки, минаващи изцяло по билото на планината, но с велосипед от там ще е по-трудно. Поради факта, че планината се явява гранична зона между България и Македония, са налице множество черни пътища дори в най-високите и части. Осоговската планина е подходяща за туризъм през всички сезони. Има няколко хижи в по-ниските и части, които се явяват изходни точки за много маршрути. Срещат се и заслони в по-високите части, където човек може да се приюти при нужда. От видеото може да се добие представа за маршрута до вр. Руен.
