Spending 336,000 euro on the construction of a bike shelter at Leinster House is “inexcusable and inexplicable”, the Taoiseach has said.

Minister of State with responsibility for the Office of Public Works (OPW) Kieran O’Donnell has asked his officials to carry out an immediate full review of the project.

    1. Does not every Irish person see that these so called politicians are laughing in their faces. Not because they are smart or intellegent, nothing could be further from the truth, but because they appear to know no better than to lie, steal and cheat. That puts them on the same level as convicted people in the prison system, yet we still vote for them.

    2. what's a few 100k to them when they've splashed out nearly 1.5bn on the upkeep of Ukrainian nationals, including €1m a month on their pampered PETS!

    3. Divide 18 into 336,000. That's what each bike space costs. We must be the laughing stock of the world. And the paddy that paid for it should be put in stocks in the village square, and pay back all the money that the bike shed didn't cost.

    4. Any builder in d country looks at a job 5 minutes he knows what he needs and d costs especially in a small job like that and they paid a quantity surveyor 10.000 to price it what a complete fiddle of taxpayers money it shows d curroption in this government 😢😢

    5. The OPW are rebranding themselves as The OPM Other Peoples Money 💰. We're pure and utter gobshites if we let this carry on continue. The last one to leave, will you switch off the lights.

    6. Not surprised at all and no one will be punished in anyway because corruption is rife in this country and always has been and its right there at the top scumbag politicians

    7. They need to look at which of their politicians have links to the construction company. Something like that shouldn't cost anywhere near that. We have thousands of glass and stainless steel bus shelters in Wales and they cost less than £16,000 each with tax, and look like smaller versions of this. Irish taxpayers are being fleeced by their government here.

    8. Don't you usually get a quote or two for a construction job before they commence. Strange they are only now looking at the cost after public exposure. Unforeseen extra's ?

    9. Business as usual I see… NO accountability, NO heads ever roll for such outrageous waste of public money — but if they thought you were over-paid a fiver in your unemployment or pension payment, they`d be at your door threatening you with prison for fraud…. Patrick Street in Fermoy [ a major street] was due to be re-surfaced, at a cost of 450 K — the funding was stopped/withdrawn recently —- it was probably `diverted`to pay for this rubbish…… so their bike shelter [used by a few ] got priority over a busy main street in a major town, used by many…Ballymagash is alive and well, courtesy of FF and FG and it will NEVER change … a shower of self-serving muppets. They wouldn`t be kept beyond coffee-break time, on a Monday morning, in the private sector , before being given the door. Revenue squeezing the last Euro out of you, and this is what it goes on………..

    10. Blame the Green Party and the 2 parties who went in with them. The Greens clearly have more interest in green issue than economic issues. The 2 other parties have the Greens snooping behind their back and can't do anything useful without the Greens say so

    11. THIS
SCAM, needs to be Investigated by the Proper Authority even CAB may be needed.
If the Politicians in Leinster Hse want to Pay for it out of their Own Pockets well & good.
But this is Money belonging to the Irish Taxpayer.
      DISGRACEFUL

    12. MICK
SAYS, it is What it Is Now.
Doesn't He think the Taxpayers who paid for this should see the Whole Detail on who Ordered same & who Signed of on the Deal.
Imagine that the Leaders of the Irish Parliament don't KNOW how this came About.
