We are less than a week from the debut of our Streetfilms videos from Ghent, Belgium!
But I am posting up some shorts that will not make the final video(s).
This started out as a 15-20 second montage/transition between topics which grew to 1+ minute! (45 seconds too long for the film, but why not let the full thing see the light of day?
Watch the ballet of bicyclists navigate tram tracks! And, yes, basically, NO HELMETS!

The key is to take sharp turn when near rail, so u do't get stuck or fall down
Cities are more vibrant with more bicycles, people walking and less cars.
Some cities have streets as wide or narrow as this and no trams – and people there cannot imagine putting trams down. I Wonder Why This is?
Tram rails are suicidal for cyclists. Unbelievably slippy and dangerous when they're wet. All my 3 bike accidents have involved tram tracks.
Gent is a beautiful city. Lovely to see the routine in seemingly casually crossing the rails. This feels safe because it is a woonerf-area with no access for cars, unless they have a permit: https://goo.gl/maps/ZnDJ7R3epxecj4ag9 Traffic is supposed to drive on pedestrian pace / up to 20 km/h = 12 mph (in Belgium; 15 km/h = 9 mph in the Netherlands). So these bikes don't need to stress, outpace cars, have racing tires, which makes things a lot safer around tram rails. If you can't wait a whole week: get to Gent on Google Maps: https://goo.gl/maps/PvS1ZqQQjXzti8P96
But it is absolutely not bike-friendly.
Avoiding tram tracks is as easy as avoiding curbs. And you bang over both at an angle greater than 45 deg when you need to.
Be cautious when encountering street rails! I was on vacation in Berlin when my tires got caught in street car rails. I broke me elbow and spent a week in the hospital.
They covered many rails in Philadelphia by request bc it was causing accidents
? Great content, Keep up the good work! Have you seen SMZeus[.]com!? You could use it to promote your videos!
Echt cool…! <3 <3 <3
Don't get stuck in the rails haha
did this with my road bike at high speed didnt end well
Brilliant – I love watching skilled, everybody, everyday riding like this! In Australia not many people have this kind of dexterity on wheels; which is not surprising – we have a very car dominant culture, and everyone is forced to wear a helmet whilst riding a bike, because it is assumed you will probably fall off or have a collision. And so we have a lot of nervous, unskilled riders … who would probably fall off or have a collision on a street such as that shown in this video. God help us!
Yeah this will go wrong often. It's better than a street filled with cars, but this shit really isn't fun to cycle through. My uncle actual broke his collar bone because he got his feont wheel in one and he's an avid cyclist. Can't image what it's like with young, old and drunk people.
So nice to see people walking n cycling….so much nicer this way!!
