The yellow outer jacket of my wife's U-Lock (Kryptonite NY 1213) was incredibly sticky, and could not be made unsticky. I'm assuming UV exposure or temp change cycles from a life outdoors caused it to degrade somewhat.
After several failed attempts to unstick-ify it, I had the idea to simple cover it. I took a look around my toolbox, saw my adhesive backed pleather, and thought I'd give that a shot.
I did a pretty shoddy job cutting it to fit, and who knows how it will hold up to UV. But for now, V1 got a big thumbs up from my wife.
Featuring the old Japanese Soma Cosmopolitan Mixte I rebuilt for my wife. I swear I've seen the same mixte frame and fork with half a dozen different brands circa 1980.

Nice fix! The thing I hate about rubberized plastics is that they are nice when new, but are guaranteed to get gross and sticky over time as plasticizers degrade. I wish goods manufacturers would stop rubberizing everything.
