Hi there,
I’m still searching for a bike. I know the listed bikes are rather different but I’m not very sure what’s the best for my usage.

My main usage will be some day trips around my city with a distance of ~100km. The streets here are pretty bad and I’m a rather heavy biker at 100kg/220lbs.
I’m a beginner but overall a lot into sports, so pretty confident that I will use the bike a lot.

So far I have 4 options:

Trek Domane SL5 2024 model, size 62- 3 times used, 3 years warranty ~2000€.
Shimano 105

Trek Emonda SL5 2023 model, size 62 – new, lifetime warranty ~1800€.
Shimano 105

Trek Checkpoint AL5 2022 model, size 61 – used for <500km. 2 years warranty. ~1200€
GRX group set.

Merida Silex 700, 2021 model but new. Size XL. Lifetime warranty ~1200€
Shimano 105

All prices are already negotiated.
Currently I prefer the Domane due to the possibility to mount 38mm tires, which might be beneficial for the streets here. Also I like the overall appearance of the bike. My second choice would be the Merida.

What do you suggest?

  1. Zestyclose_Stage4009 on

the domane will be the most comfortable but the emonda lifetime warranty might be worth it for 200 cheaper with the same groupset. the checkpoint would be more for gravel riding

The Domane isospeed is not reliable and known for breaking on people. Or creaking and seatpost slipping. Google it.

  3. So there are lovely trek bikes and one Merida silex …I own an emonda and I also own the Silex. Both Bikes are brilliant, but they serve a different purpose. The Emonda is fast and nimble and I just love and while the silex is comfortable over long distances and because it’s gravel – gives you the option to switch between Tarmac and gravel road. The Trek Checkpoint is great but they have launched a new one called checkmate… check it out!
My order of preference – checkmate(one bike to rule them all), Emonda (road only), Merida Silex Carbon and Checkpoint ALR
