Nice is a city and port in the south of France, located on the Mediterranean coast, between Marseille and Genoa with a population of 339,000 people, the administrative center of the Alpes-Maritimes department. The city is a major tourist center and a leading resort on the French Riviera (Côte d’Azur). The city was founded by the Greeks in the 5th century BC. and named after Nike, the goddess of victory.

In the 19th century, the Victorian elite of society and the royal aristocracy loved to visit here. Today, Nice is more like a commercial center and a middle-class resort: it is not as fashionable and less expensive than the resort towns located nearby. However, thanks to its international airport and fast train service from Paris, it is the first resort on the Cote d’Azur that many tourists visit.

Numerous beaches in Nice are covered with pebbles, and most of them are free, warm and clean.
In this video we will walk with you along one of the main attractions of Nice – the Promenade des Anglais.
Nice’s main promenade, the Promenade des Anglais, takes its name from wealthy English tourists who built it to connect their neighborhood with the main city near Castle Hill. Subsequently, it was converted for walks along the sea. Among the world celebrities walking along the promenade were Queen Victoria, Winston Churchill and dancer Isadora Duncan, who, by an absurd accident, was strangled by a long scarf that got caught in one of the wheels of a car here in Nice, right in front of the Negresco Hotel.

The city’s sparkling sun and relaxing atmosphere have always attracted artists and writers. Among them were Dumas, Nietzsche, Apollinaire, Flaubert, Victor Hugo, George Sand, Stendhal, Chateaubriand. Nice is still considered the pearl of the Cote d’Azur. On average there are 300 sunny days a year. The combination of rich history and culture, favorable climate, diverse nature, developed transport infrastructure and a high level of tourist services continues to make this city one of the most popular resorts in the world.
