This route was attempted some years ago but we did not continue beyond Agia Triada. We started of very early in the morning because we had to drive to Goudouras first where we had to parl the car and prepare the gear. We took of at 08:00 from Goudouras towards Ziros plateau. In fact this is super demnding climb. It has constant climbs with very little chance to rest. With dedication and focus we made it to the top in Ziros. After that things were very easy.

The first part from Goudouras to Ziros plateau takes you mostly through olive tress. As you approach the plateau the scenery becomes better and better The top brings you to a gorgeous flat altiplano with grape vines. Gorgeous. We arrived there really at the best part of the day: early morning. We continued to Armenoi which is where we took our short break. Also amazing villaage. After Armenoi we left through Etia and started a decent over the main way connecting Ierapetra and Sitia. We made anothe stop at Lithines to go on south till Makri Gialos (Analipsi). Then we took the main road with a direction east. Now this is one of the most beautiful parts I have ever done despite the cars. All in all, with the exception of the part between Papagiannades and Analipsi the route is extremely beautiful!

Generally the climb is very demanding. Especially till Ziros. After that the climbs to be expected are very easy. Taking the ride early in he morning is highly recommended not only to avoid the sun radiation but also because the colours are so much nicer and the smells too.

Yet another touch with the cretan nature that will stay with us forever. But remember: no ride is worth taking unless taken with a best friend …
