What’s it like biking in London, Ontario? Honestly, it really depends on where you live, where you need to go, and which routes you take.
In this video, join Katie Lardner and I for a ride along as she embarks on a Costco run using her long tail electric cargo bike (Tern GSD).
This is part one of a two-part series where we’ll explore what it’s like to bike across the city, ask Katie some questions, and navigate London’s streets, paths, bike lanes, and dedicated cycling infrastructure.

In the next video, we’ll see how she manages to haul over $300 worth of groceries back home!

    1. People need to turn off or zero the electric before getting off bike because unintentionally when getting off you can accidentally pull on throttle and it be dangerous for rider and people around. I hope people learn this

    2. I order my groceries online and pick them up on my way home on my bike lol I get some strange looks from ppl in their cars waiting for their orders. I'm lucky I have a protected lane pretty much from work to home. Small city 😊

    3. 2:00 That's a fair criticism for painted bike lanes. I personally like painted bike lanes better than no bike lane for two reasons. (1) In my area, it's extremely rare to encounter bicyclists on the roads particularly because of our rainy weather and hilly terrain. And being a rarity like that, I feel like I can be a real irritant to car drivers and start a road rage. (2) Having painted bike lanes dedicated to bicycle use kinda feels like a promise by the city to keep that pavement smooth, which is more important for bicycles than it is for cars. And it feels to me like a promise that is mostly kept when I see it in my area. Usually when there is a bike lane, it's a smooth ride, and when there is no bike lane, I feel like I'm constantly weaving between and around road hazards from the bumps and pot holes, which then puts me into some predicaments where in order to dodge a hazard, I would either need to jut out in front of car traffic (bad idea) or slam on my hand brakes to slow down in order for me or my cargo not to be thrown off my bike.

    4. 19:55 That's a 60 kmh road?! That's about 37 MPH! Ya, I that's where I draw the line. I'm only comfortable with painted bike lanes when the speed limit is 30 MPH or less, but I'd prefer 25 MPH or less.

    5. 21:26 It's times like these where I like to intentionally behave seemly erratic in order to make the car drivers behind me in the adjacent lane nervous. The more nervous they are about hitting me, the safer I am. I want them to think that at any moment, I could swerve a few inches over my line. (I don't, but I want them to think I could.)

    6. Ok, that poor lady on the motorized scooter over the bridge….absolutely pathetic that this happens…..I'm sure a lot more often than most would realize. Can you say carcentric much?

    7. as a cycliest i think ur making to much of the e bike cargo thing , just ride , I've living in Toronto , I grew up in buffalo , I ll leave the e bike hating to others , I will say I feel there for the OLDER OR DISABLED

    8. 18:30 … car drivers: You are not “in” traffic, you ARE traffic.

Reducing car traffic is the change drivers don’t want to make because it doesn’t personally benefit them in that moment.

    9. Such an awesome video with the commentary and the footage! The narration, experiences from a community member, commentary on biking infrastructure are all so interesting and I'm glad I was able to come across this video to get a slice of the life over there.
