Just gotta say as someone who has just finished a PhD in Materials Engineering from Loughborough Uni, that was the most ozzy pronunciation ever! 😂 For future ref it's pronounced Luff-bra 😉 Also going straight to Tudor pro cycling to send an application in now! Thanks for the heads up guys! 😁
For swapping disc wheelsets in different hubs, just use washers. Several brands now sell those. There is an initial work to align all wheels (it is a trial and error work) but then you can swap them no issue. Other option is to make sure all hubs are from the same brand.
Come on guys!! Unless you have unreleased products in your hands, there is no cadex max 50mm. Giant only has the Cadex Ultra 50mm which is, as you said, 2 years old by now and came out on the propel. They do NOT have the one-piece carbon hub plus carbon spokes thing that the cadex max 40mm have. That's where the max 40mm really got their weight reduction. The max 40 also have the extra-wide spokes as compared to "regular" carbon spokes of the Ultra 50mm.
You buy rotors for each wheelset and use shims to get them to the same place on all wheelsets. The wear on the rotors does not matter, in my experience. This really isn't rocket science.
Chris, Chris, Chris…it took you two hours to figure out what was wrong. Then it took you three minutes to correct it. Next time you jump right to the three minutes, right? Once in a while a piston will stick, or the pad spring will need to be bent back out, or you'll need to re-center a caliper. These are easy and fast corrections that you now know how to do. Next you'll learn how to true a rotor and you'll be the disk brake whisperer.
How is a 7 day stage race a grand tour?
May be Demi had a bonus $$$$ for winning the race and the team did not want to pay… it has happened before… 😮
1:25:30 The feature Jesse is talking about is already a thing with SRAM mountain bike brakes. It’s a bite point adjust that independently moves the pistons without affecting your reach at the lever. Would certainly be a cool thing to see implemented on road brakes, but would likely come at a weight penalty.
This is off this weeks topic and most won’t care, but I heard Josh Poertner say recently that Pog was on 30c tires at the tour not because they’re faster but because the uci wasn’t allowing anything smaller than 29s on hookless wheels. Also said that 28s would have been more optimal.
I'm not so stiff and compliant this week form this one
Wiebes though she could win. She had missed out in the 3 previous stages. But year … poor team (tactics)
Get yourself some disc rotor spacers
Jessie my guy, bleed your brakes sunshine
Michelin power cup tlr tires are in my opinion on the same level as GP5000str. Roll fast, good grip, didn’t have any stupid punctures. Now back on GP5000s because i can get them cheaper but yea, tires to recommend for sure.
I believe Chris is correct in that there has seemed to be an 'odd' relationship with Demi and the team. Earlier in the year when the team essentially announced that Demi was not coming back to the team next year it was almost like they were saying "yeah, we talked, but not really that seriously, she is leaving and we don't really care". My thoughts after Demi was left alone after the crash were that the team seemed to be doing it for spite. There were some lame excuses put out by the team regarding missed communications, etc., however, there was a team car right there after Demi went down. I think that they left her out on her own to spite her for some reason.
Luff-bruh University
is the zoomed out camera a potato?
MVDP absolutely wore yellow!!
The yellow Canyon bike issue – it’s the temperature/tone of the yellow. It’s swayed too much into the warm spectrum of the given colour, I would say…
Can you guys chat about, from a cycling perspective, how it feels that top cycling athletes (mostly track to be fair) are being used as engines to power the America's Cup racing yachts? Is this a cool opportunity to use an ability in a different sport, or is it some weird "you're a freak, here's some money, now go run fast in your hamster wheel"
You definitely need to do some learning with disc brakes 😉 Ask your bike mechanic or go to the Park Tool YT channel.
Disk brakes already have auto trim and you can use different wheel sets.
Clean the brake pistons and push the piston all the way in. Put the wheel back in. Then pull the brake lever a few times and the pads are "auto trimmed" into the correct position.
Also if the disc isn't quite flat you can carefully true it to avoid that "ding ding" every rotation.
Why do y’all think the Enve is such a gravel/endurance bike? I got curious about the geo after hearing all the shit talking and looked it up. In a 56cm it’s 6mm taller than a tarmac and only 1mm longer wheelbase.
No apology??
The bit about the frothing chamois cracked me up… reminds me of a time I witnessed Lee Turner foaming all over everyone on the hell ride… 🤣🤮
The new sram red hoods are longer probably allowing Demi to grip the lever with all four fingers
I enjoyed your conversation, thanks, just that with all your chatter about the new Giant, Jesse really could take it for a spin around the block and say something about it. Perhaps that could be a new segment, Jesse's bike ride impressions, even with viewers' bikes and that'd be fun.
That segment about the swimmers training was the best cross sport comparison / discussion I’ve heard 🎯
As a regular rider who sadly just ruptured their Achilles tendon. Thanks for the continuing content.
Re Vollering- the team threw her under the bus in the media saying that she wanted too much money- but if she signs for FdJ- I’m guessing their budget isn’t better than SD Worx- this all played out pre tdff and quite sure this played into team management and tactics
Yes you can adjust the lever throw and actuation. On ultegra and Durace, but not on 105 or lower.
Better this week, but honestly a bit tired of the "this feels faster than that" convos…
Agree 100% with Jesse regarding the TCR with CRWs. I'm a proud TCR owner. It's my only road bike. I'll never have a second road bike.
I love the feeling of my TCR day to day, but when I race a crit, I want to know if upgrading my wheels is going to make me more competitive.
enjoying the weekly show – every week. Although it would have been good if Jesse had done some prep (ie women's TDF) as I come here for your considered opinions
Vollering losing the whole race was down to the DS on the day of the crash and lack of communication. He also believed she could come back in the following stages. Judge for your self: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5UkCObU3xY
Always good
