I wanted to share a recent experience I had with Rapha and get your thoughts on it. I purchased a pair of sunglasses from them for $175, expecting top-notch quality. However, less than a month later, they broke while I was simply cleaning them.
I reached out to customer service to request a full refund, but they only offered me 60% of the sunglasses’ price, and that too in the form of store credit. This is really frustrating, especially considering I have a pair of $10 sunglasses from Aliexpress that I bought five years ago, and they’re still in great shape.
I’ve attached a photo for those who are interested. You can clearly see how fragile the construction looks, which I find unacceptable for a product at this price point.
When I choose to pay more for a brand, it’s not just for better quality but also for understanding customer support in case something goes wrong. In this case, I’m disappointed that the response didn’t meet my expectations.

Huh, I have a pair of Rapha glasses I’ve used for years and love them… I even bought a second pair for when the first one goes to shit, but it hasn’t yet. However, mine’s the type where you can remove the tinted lens and replace it with a clear lens, so the lens is a totally separate piece from the frame.

Sunglasses are generally all made of the same material.
I prefer Tifosi’s and sometimes goodr. My casual pair look like ray bans but are $20 on Amazon. Sometimes they break. I’ve lost multiple sunglasses that fall off while kayaking or canoeing.
They are plastic and will break, so paying a lot doesn’t make sense.

Get a pair that has a frame that goes over the top of the lens and connects to each arm. It puts way less stress on the corners of the lens.

Get my glasses from either Galibier or Victory Chimp. Two small companies that are both run by keen cyclists. Not expensive but with a focus on value for money, great customer service and nice design.
I’ve never got into Rapha at all though. I like some of their clothing designs but never enough to consider buying.
