This is the poorest and most unemployed place in the UK; Scunthorpe.

Skint tells the provocative and revealing stories of people who are in long-term unemployment, have never worked, or are growing up without any expectation of working. This series offers an insight into the lives of those unable to find work and being thrown back onto their own resources.

In this series premiere, we get introduced to Dean who used to work at the steelworks in Scunthorpe, but now he, his wife and their seven children get by on benefits. Dean shows us his world where being out of work is nothing out of the ordinary and where people do what they can to survive. Also on Dean’s estate, we follow local shoplifters who sell stolen deodorant on the cheap and a 15-year-old boy who has been expelled from seven schools. This is what it means to be SKINT.

  1. Im sure this community will benefit from an extreme amount of immigration and illegal immigration of which only 20% will get a job.

  2. Does anyone else worry Connor seemed like he would have been a bit more violent if the cameras weren't there?
I wonder how everyone is doing now

  3. There was a spate of these types of programmes, Skint, Benefits street etc but strangely no programmes whatsoever on the wealthy who hide money offshore or the MPs who claim huge amounts of expenses including heating stables and maintaining moats.

  4. I grew up 5 minutes from Scunthorpe, I had to move across the country for work (Consulting). It was a dire place 10 years ago and has only got worse.
