Tamirat Tola of Ethiopia prevailed over a punishing Paris 2024 marathon course to win gold in an Olympic record time of two hours six minutes and 26 seconds. Belgium’s Bashir Abdi came through for silver, with bronze going to Benson Kipruto of Kenya. His fellow countryman Eliud Kipchoge, the legendary two-time gold medallist and defending champion, saw his Olympic career at the distance end in disappointment.
