Much of the area previously occupied by the Storthes Hall Hospital was developed a Storthes Hall Park Student Village, a student campus for the University of Huddersfield in the mid 1990s. The village accommodates the largest single concentration of students from the university with more than 1,300 students staying every year.

In June 2024, it was announced that Storthes Hall Student Village would close in July 2024, due to challenges in the student accommodation business and in the wider market. Planning permission was being sought for 261 houses to be built on the site; however, this was in the early stages, and no approval has been given.

  1. Absolutely mental that this is closing, everyone I've ever known that stayed here loved their time here, it was by far the best accommodation I've seen and I've been in Salford, Newcastle and Manchester ones. It's the only one that has nature on your doorstep, and it's not even that bad to get to Uni from there since they had a bus running every 30 mins at worst, was always busy, such a life to it. I'm glad I did totally legal substances there whilst I had the chance it was great lmao

  2. Be filled with more Rubber dingy gangs !! Looked after by Serco with there £2bn contract over the next 2yrs which is going to be £4bn!! Anyone want to place a bet 🥺?? Mark my Words!! Not be housing our homeless tho will It?? 🤬 worst feeling I’ve had from your Vids Bro!!

  3. what a shame, what about the fooball club you missed that and the old central building. But we have an idea who the next people who will use it.

  4. The function/bar area would make a lovely wedding venue. The student flats all around could be made into council flats, 2 and 3 bedroom rooms. Why knock something down what can be refurbished if need be, and all looks lovely.

  5. I lived there for a year 2001-2002. In Boothroyd block. The Mental Hospital closed 92, I think, then the student blocks were built mid- late 90s. Lots of the security, cleaning and bar staff were from the hospital. Lot of the original buildings are gone now. We used to explore then when we were there. Full of things like doctors coats and medical stuff. The only original buildings now are the gatehouse. There is a building in the middle of the blocks which used to be the security office. Then the bar at the topnofnthe Hill behind boothroyd block. The basement of the bar was the old mourge, it had tunnels underneath to all the original buildings so it a patient died, the could move them to the mourge out of sight.

  6. Where the black cat was parked at "the venue" (previously known as the Arbar), that used to be a little shop. Think the only listed parts are the Gatehouse and the bar building.

  7. Imagine what this could do for our homeless, veterans etc. by the way this was built in the 90’s/00’s. Parts of the area are listed as the old hospital. If you’re going to make a video of this check the facts first.
