One of the most chaotic and memorable downhill races of all time…

Les Gets always delivers. This year, it delivered carnage. After a few hot and sunny days of practice followed by qualifying that dried out the track whilst showcasing the beauty of the Mont Blanc and Haute-Savoie region, a large storm rolled in for finals, wiping the slate clean. With strong winds and heavy rain in the forecast, the organizers at Warner Brothers Discovery decided to cancel the Junior races and move the Elite finals earlier in the day to try and avoid the weather. Unfortunately, this late change was futile, as the heavens opened and poured down onto the track as the Women got us underway.

As more rain started to fall, the loose track turned into a mudslide, with almost every rider losing their bike and slipping and sliding their way down the mountain. This didn’t deter the devoted French fans, however, who attended in their numbers and braved the elements to see one of the most entertaining shows in downhill history. After a second crash that saw him slide way past his bike down a treacherous steep section, Bodhi Kuhn saw the funny side, hyping up the crowd. Ultimately, Amaury Pierron stole the show, with a breathtaking run that saw the French crowd erupt in ecstasy and storm the finish in celebration as he took the win.

Now it’s time for a short break during the Olympics before the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in Andorra…
