Did you know that the largest amount of carbon emissions at Olympic Games typically come from the construction of competition venues? For Paris 2024, 95% of competition venues are pre-existing (like the Roland-Garros complex where the French Open is held) or temporary! The only permanent venue built is the new Aquatics Centre in Saint-Denis. It will host the water polo, synchronised swimming, and diving events during the Games, and will be transformed into a multi-use sports and community centre for the area after the Games are over.

With over 13 MILLION meals served over the course of the month-long Olympic and Paralympic Games, a lot of food is required for athletes, staff, coaches, media, and spectators alike! To encourage healthier, more planet-conscious eating habits, Paris 2024 is offering twice as many plant-based options as previous Games, and even has a fully plant-based menu at the Concorde venue. Similarly, 80% of food is sourced from within France, with 25% of that coming from less than 250km away from competition venues, and ZERO food will be imported by air.

Making venues accessible to spectators of all abilities is another way Paris 2024 is seeking to be more inclusive, as well as leave a vital legacy for the Ile-de-France region. With 240 accessible stations on the Île-de-France Mobilités network, as well as wheelchair parking, 1,000 accessible taxis, audio description available for 13 sports, and shuttles intended for wheelchair users departing from the seven major Parisian train stations (plus Rosa Parks), Paris 2024 can be enjoyed by everyone who loves the Games.

There are so many initiatives, goals, and standards in place that set Paris 2024 apart from any other Olympic Games in history.

  1. Wouldn't it be more sustainable yet and easier to stop moving these games around, keep them in the same place (Greece for instance), and stop constructing infrastructures that have a good chance to be left to decay afterwards?

  2. Good in-depth video. Well done. Good to hear about that Climate Coach website that can help even smaller scale sporting events become more green, sustainable and eco-friendly. Maybe you can drop that link in the description or comments?

  3. Not green until uncle snoop light up a blunt with the torch and smoking and jogging thru paris. Then yall will be green and blessed 🙌

  4. Many would find it easy to criticize France but the reality is this is something that not everyone can achieve. Let alone cleaning the river Seine. Many cities' rivers are no-go zones and no one is doing shit about it. The green design of these games is top-notch
