  1. Man, I love your content. You've been a go to for me in modding my car. I just wish you didn't bring race/ colour in to it at the start of this one

  2. It's sad that here we are in 2024, and the question is not so much whether or not, Mr. Kern Jr. knows about B58s, but rather, @Trichau1563 shows his ignorance by adding "black guy" to the question… Ignorant… no other way to describe him/her… SMDH…

  3. @kern417 thank you for your knowledge. I have a f82 m4cs I drive on the weekends and I ended up getting a new m340i as a daily. Had it for 6 weeks with nothing but engine issues. My wife's A90 supra has been bulletproof so was really bummed out about this. Now looking to buy and older model m340i

  4. Bro your channel is so insightful to be able to grow as a person we learn something new everyday I jus hate idiots who are negative or say stupid shit. Keep up the great work.

  5. Not that anyone’s racial ancestry should have any bearing on the topic, but (arguably) the two most widely-recognized “spokespeople” of b58 motors are black from the islands. Why I half think it’s trolling

  6. The last video went viral because it confirms what we've all been feeling. Engines are no longer getting better, they're getting worse to meet impossible emission goals.

  7. When the exhaust valves are closed, the Valvetronic keeps the intake valve closes. So the air in the cylinders acts like springs and little energy is lost. If the engine is pumping air energy is consumed.

  8. 1:15 yup settles it all. You are just like the rest of us. BroScience to say it nicely. You are equal to everyone else broski. Your thoughts and opinions are just that….opinions. When you went off the hinges about me replacing my charge pipe on the B58tu with an alum option you said it was unnecessary. It is 100% needed when adding boost and modding. You cannot convince me plastic is more durable than aluminum. This is my 3rd BMW. I have gone down the hard path
    N54 E90 335i
    N55 F30 335i
    and now B58Tu M340i
I also have the XP to toss my opinion around the ring as well.

  9. On the oil issue, my 2025 X5 manual says to use either BMW LL01 FE or LL22 FE++. LL01 FE can be had up to 0W-30. The LL22 FE++ is the super thin stuff. Since the TU2 engine has port injection, low speed pre ignition is not an issue, so it does not require an SP oil. SL, SM, and SN oils are good.

  10. Dang Kevin you really shook the flea's off with this one. Theres a bunch of em in the comments feeling some type of way about addressing the closet racists down in the comments XD.

  11. its kinda to bad to see them take this extra step and complicate the motor even more and maybe they have gone to far. the question is what generation b58 would you choose if you had the choice in a new bmw.
All i know is my little m240ix is hands down the best car i have ever owned, its easy to drive and can be alot of fun to.

  12. Help me understand …
If BMW is aware of the issue on this new B58 version, and there is a TSB and the problem will be corrected, what is the issue here?? Is it because it's soon after release, or because it is unusual for other reasons?

  13. Look ma a made it into one of Kerns videos!!!! Yeah this gen 3 b58 “cylinder deactivation” is definitely different from the traditional variable lift lifter technology that GM used or still uses idk. Regardless whatever this alien technology cylinder deactivation is I’m not here for it if it causes increased unreliability and complexity. It’s cheaper and more environmentally friendly (if that’s ur thing) to spend a lil more on gas than to replace heads/engines.

I was talking about this new gen 3 b58 and its issue with some of the 30 plus year techs at my work today (I work at Toyota as a beginner technician and my own b58s/bmws on the side) and we were all so confused as to why bmw would do this and couldn’t figure out how this new system works either lol. Gotta hand it to Toyota for never dipping their hand in this pot even thought they do make mostly boring cars, with several exceptions ofc.
