A 2000 km bike ride across Iceland in July and August 2016. We rode from south to north across the highlands to Landmannalaugar then on to the Askja Crater on the Sprengisandur and F910.
We followed Route 1 back to Reykjavik with a few detours along the way.

Hi Gearoid, just been reading your excellent pedalingcircles blog, I've been thinking about doing a shorter version of your ride next summer. I have a steel gravel bike that takes 700x35c gravel tyres. do you think it could handle these mountain roads? ie. how soft and deep is the sand. I can't really afford to cough up for an off road touring/mountain bike. any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks Dermot
