here we are stage 12 another opportunity for the sprinters and we were deliberating over the break making it or not another long one 24 km with 2,200 M of elevation three category 4 climbs and a hot day to add to that fatigue let’s have a look at some of the key moments from the day then shall we the first one being the intermediate Sprint and I would like to point out the intent of inter Marche with three teammates ahead of the green jersey wearer iiam gai versus yasper Phillipson here who is by himself and if I let this roll it was a really really strong display on a hard intermediate Sprint an uphill one at that just showing the legs of bam gay already at this stage of the race two teammates left here we’re coming into a couple of hundred meters to go bam gay launching his Sprint on the right hand side yes philipson not able to come around him and if I just go back here slightly you can see yasper philipsson taking a look over his left hand shoulder to check there’s no more challenges and saving his legs for the final potentially the second clip that we’re going to look at here was just under 12 kilometers to go a really big crash in a chaotic pelaton it was the aana rider who got caught out by this Central res observation that you can see in the middle of the road and critically the big Rider to lose out here was primo rogl and the team just a different shot here you can see the estana guy just getting caught out in the middle of the road taking down a lot of riders behind him there Primos ralich going down taking a hard hit to his right shoulder and also to his head you could see that in the clips of him coming to the Finish Line technical problems as well for the bike and most importantly losing 2 minutes and 27 seconds in the final of today’s stage these are the shots of him coming into the line looking battered and bruised damaged helmet as well so you can see a big Blow To The Head hopefully he’ll be able to start tomorrow’s stage the third click we’re going to look at is this one so the Riders are just coming under the flam Rouge with one kilometer to go if I just skip forward here I can show you how far back biniam gai and yasper Phillipson are so this is biniam gay and this is yasper philipson so very far back going to go on to the next clip now so 623 MERS to go and it was a very very chaotic final especially after that crash that we saw with just under 12 km to go and if I come forward here some very key moments in the final you can see here biniam gai Mark Cavendish here dear is being led out by his lead out man Dan mlay who is now going backwards at this stage Mark Cavendish makes a big move around Dan mlay so he came around this Rider here Arnold dear is on the left hand side with wal vanard just behind him biniam gamar with clear space with the legs let’s see what happens in the Finish bam gay a clear run to the line Arnold dear on the left hand side to take second yasper philipson had to come from so far back dear ended up relegated on today’s stage and this is why if I just come backwards you can see a big space on his right hand side as opposed to now where he is closed on that barrier the barrier does come in slightly so you could argue that that didn’t help him in that situ situation Mark Cavendish going left around Dan mlay who is coming backwards after that lead out a big swing out left here and back onto the wheel of biniam gai impeding the Riders behind him both Riders relegated after today’s stage

I can't see why Demare was also relegated. It just seems that anyone who dares to get in the way of van Aert gets relegated. I will laugh my socks off if Wout ever gets relegated himself, although I am not holding my breath. If he can't mix it with the big boys, he shouldn't be sprinting.

I am curious to see if this is going to be a thing. I am not following sprints long enough to know if the lead-in simply stopping to pedal and blocking competitors to benefit your team mate is a new strategy. I have seen many lead-ins simply drifting out of the way. That causes no issues.
My heart dropped off for Cavendish because such maneuver in tight and fast environment is a death ticket.What a sportsmanship and skill with high talent this guy possesses .On my opinion those lead out athletes should be ruled to certain distance from finish line otherwise they can cause a big accident and irevesivble damage in life time.

When Cavendish and the 2nd rider went left, that entire side of the road was empty, and no one behind them even had to slow down. There was wide open space for all riders on left to sprint at full speed to the finish. I'm happy officials addressed the Phillipsen pinching situation earlier in this TdF, but that doesn't mean the jury should ban proper racing moves going forward, by simply forcing riders to plow into blockers ahead of them in a straight line to the finish. This relegation should be reviewed and overturned. If anyone gets a penalty, it should be that team in red.

Prior to that Cavendish jumped to the right corner to impede Bini but Bini sorted it out!! He almost pushed him on the post boards

Why relegate cavendish? When the rider infront of him stop pedalling. Stewards should analyze why riders are suddenly swerving? Its look like the rider in red should be relegated for sudden stop pedalling.

I very much hope Cavendish really is going to retire this year and not do a sudden U-turn on that decision as he did in 2023. We're in the bizarre situation now where he's attained this "Best Tour Sprinter Ever" mantle at a time where he's some way off being the best sprinter even in this year's race. I think the whole "35 record wins" thing is massively overrated anyway, but had he achieved it in 2021 when he arguably was still the top sprinter, it would have had more significance, particularly if it had been on the final Champs-Élysées stage to give it that perfect symmetry of crowning his career on the jewel sprinters stage.
But as it is, he's been lingering around for another three years, purely to get this abitrary 35th Tour stage win. Whatever that 35th win means, he has got it now. It's in the bag. Mission accomplished. Another stage win would be completely meaningless at this point, even if he could snag one.

The relegation of sprinters when you have obvious slower sprinters impeding you, one must find a passing route like Cavendish did. It's racing and sprinting UCI for heavens sake! UCI officials are idiots! I understand blatant lane blocking but this was get out of the way I am all in!
You failed to point out that before Cavendish’s very wide move; there was another move prior which nearly knocked another rider off of his bike. That’s why officials are needed, especially in very dangerous sports like cycling.
Could cav have kept that line and behind girmay? For sure. Guy pulling back fast and you're going over 40+mph it's split second decision and there was room to go left anyway. 4 years ago this isn't called
Mr. Cavendish pleads guilty: to speeding
I like Robbie, but his cavalier attitude about sprint protocols is not good for the sport. The rules are common sense and simple: if a rider's deviation impedes or endangers another rider, it's a penalty. "Back in my day we sucked it up and accepted broken bones" is a poor argument.
Serious props to the rider on Cav's left for reading Cav's move instantly and avoiding getting taken out, or causing any drama behind him. Mesmerizing reflexes.

Lead out men should not be allowed to sit up and stop pedaling in the middle of a sprint, thereby creating hazards.
