    LAKE TAHOE, CALIFORNIA PART 3! | Biking | Mansion at Sugar Pine | Meeks Bay | Breweries & Pizza



    Last day in Lake Tahoe! What a beautiful place to stay. We have been RV camping at the Tahoe Valley Campground in South Lake Tahoe for the last four nights.

    We spend our last day going to Sugar Pine State Park to bike ride and visit the Hellman-Ehrman Mansion.

    There are miles and miles of biking around Lake Tahoe and neighboring towns that allows bikers of ages and abilities to participate in.

    The Hellman-Ehrman Mansion is a must see for anyone who loves history and beautiful turn-of-the-century architecture.

    The Hellman-Ehrman Mansion, also known as Pine Lodge, is a historic mansion located on the west shore of Lake Tahoe in California. The mansion is situated within Ed Z’berg Sugar Pine Point State Park, which is known for its beautiful natural surroundings and historical significance. Here are some key details about the mansion:

    History: The mansion was originally built in the early 20th century as a summer retreat for the prominent Hellman and Ehrman families. Isaias W. Hellman was a successful banker, and his daughter, Florence Hellman Ehrman, continued to use the estate as a summer residence. The mansion’s construction was completed in 1903.

    Architecture: The mansion is a prime example of the “rustic” or “Adirondack” style of architecture, popular during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It features a combination of wood and stone, with large porches and open spaces that take advantage of the scenic views of Lake Tahoe.

    State Park: The mansion and its surrounding estate were donated to the State of California in 1965 by the Ehrman family. It is now part of Ed Z’berg Sugar Pine Point State Park, which offers visitors the opportunity to explore the mansion, its grounds, and the natural beauty of the area.

    Visitor Experience: Visitors to the mansion can take guided tours to learn about its history, architecture, and the lives of the Hellman and Ehrman families. The mansion provides a glimpse into the lifestyle of California’s wealthy elite during the early 20th century.

    After the stop at Sugar Pine State Park, it’s time to get some food. We try the local BBQ and decide that it’s not the right fit for us. We’ll get pizza later.

    Cold Water Brewery has beer and wi-fi to get some work done, and so does The Hanger. Cold Water Brewery has many different styles of beer and the food looked and smelled delicious. The Hanger is a taphouse and has many food trucks located on the premises. They have a huge outside area that can accommodate large groups of people and lots of drink choices to choose from.

    The Lake Tahoe Pizza Company we saved for the end of the day. They were celebrating their 50th anniversary and have very good reason to do so. The pizza was amazing. We ordered a “taco” pizza and an appetizer of pesto chips. They served local beer, and the service might have been the best we had in Lake Tahoe.

    This was a great visit to Lake Tahoe and can’t wait to come back!

      Happy belated birthday Ron! The views are so amazing around Lake Tahoe. It looks so wonderful. The bike paths are very well maintained and biking is an excellent way to see the area. It is nice that you have bikes that you bring along with you. As you noted, the water in Meeks Bay is so clear and the beach has wonderful sand. The tour of Hellman-Ehrman Mansion was interesting. I really like architectural style of this building . The woodwall paneling is quite unique. It always amazes me what craftsmen from the past were able to accomplish with their limit toolset. It is incredible to think that tradespeople today wouldn't be able to recreate what they did. I can only imagine what the taxes would be on that house. It was great to hear the history of the property. The Lake Tahoe Pizza looked great. It is nice to see the business celebrate 50 years. The recap was great. You cover so much in your videos, it is nice to review it with us. Thank you very much for bringing us along on this amazing adventure.

      We’ve always been anted to go to Lake Tahoe. It is so pretty and so much to do. The bike ride, lake and state park are just beautiful. Enjoyed seeing the mansion. Looks like some great places to eat and drink. 😂😂. Definitely need to get there.

      Hey guys. Once again you have us wondering why we don't take advantage of Tahoe. We missed ya on the RoadSmiths live the other day. A couple of us were giving you guys a hard time about trying to keep up with you on the beer sampling. haha Are you guys happy with your Ebikes? I can see the advantage of storing them. And, I'm with on the property TAX… 😲😲 I bet the temperature drop considerably after the hail came through. By the way, Highway 50 would have been a much easier way to get there from Reno. 4 lanes all the way or 2 each way. The downside would be going through South Lake Tahoe but it's just the traffic.
