Use the factory tape, retape and adjust if its not holding when you set it up

    2. If the tape holds air and a seal why retape? Unless you just like taping rims…

Throw the tire on and see how the tape holds and then go ride

The dt swiss tape it pretty decent. Never had a problem with the stock tape.

I’d say rip it out and apply new.

I have yet to be happy with stock tubeless tape. I have six wheelsets that shipped “tubeless-prepped”. Every one leaked slowly, like the tape glue was a bit old and dried out or the rim was dusty before the tape was applied. Every Single Time. 2 x DT Swiss, 2 x Hunt, 2 x Giant. I also went through them with a rubber tool making sure the tape was as smooth and adhered as possible to the rim before their first use.

After removing all the tape from the rims, I polish the rims with glue-remover, then inspect them closely, making sure I got all of the glue off. Then I put down two wraps with tubeless tape. I didn’t always double-wrap, but after blowing out one single-wrapped wheel and filling the inner rim chamber with sealant, I double-wrap now. (I’m fat and run high pressures on narrow road tires).

Since cleaning and double-wrapping, my tubeless setups hold air longer than my butyl-tubed setups. It is GLORIOUS. I typically use Muc-Off or the unbranded Stans rim tape, and Silca Ultimate sealant, and I swear by Reserve Fillmore valves.

just redid mine after 4 years with the stock DTSwiss tape, it had starten to loosen at the ends so i applied Stans and it seems to be a bit more solid, but the stock tape is just fine. But apperently they had done my back wheel twice for some reason.

    6. Check if your rim has a plastic rim strip option. The rims I have had that have those it only cost about $20. Not all rims have them but man, the ones that do I’ll never buy a rim again that doesn’t have that. Haven’t taped tubeless setups in years and the rim strips just work…. And never stop working.
