Is it normal to have some minimal parallel scratching only on the top of a horizontally mounted shock? (there’s one or two perpendicular ones probably from falling that I can’t feel). I can however feel the parallel ones with my fingernail, but they don’t catch it, if that makes sense. I thought they were from dirt but that would only make sense if the scratches were more uniform across the entire stanchion right?

My rear triangle moves freely through its travel. Also my fork stanchions don’t have these marks.

I’m guessing it’s not an issue since the surface scratches probably aren’t deep enough to affect the seals. What do you think?

    1. Its likely from dirt. Those are very insignifigant scratches.

Its nothing to worry about until you see oil getting passed the wiper seal, which will likely never happen.

    2. Personally I wouldn’t be concerned as long as the shock is working well and doesn’t need maintaining , just small particle dirt scratches

Nothing. Ride it. I’ve got gouges filled with nail polish and haven’t had to rebuild the shock in more than a year.
