Wasn't hurt much but shocked and confused, ironically leaving a block away from a shop that just gave me a shift adjustment although I don't think that had anything to do with this.

    Heatwave hit today after a lot period of no weather above 25c/80f, could that have weakened the metal?

    1. Some possible causes:

      Covering crank in road salt keeping it wet, repeating over and over never washing and hand drying the cranks. Did you notice any white powder on the cranks? If so that’s corrosion.

      Wrong material used.

      Crazy impact like, but I doubt the bikeshop abuse your crankset to sell you a new one.

      Vaf design, stress raises, but in this case it looks like a normal crank so not that.

      You need to try warranty.

      Which model and brand of crank is this?
