I used to be an avid road endurance cyclist, doing double centuries kind of cycling. In 2016, I was hit head on by a car trying to beat me through the intersection. I’ve been to scared to go back on the road since.

Mountain biking is fun but just didn’t seem to scratch the same itch as road cycling.

Finally I pulled the trigger on a gravel bike and I’m in love. All the nostalgia I have of road cycling came flooding back but in the safety and beauty of a gravel road through a forest.

Been lurking for a while but this sub helped me make the jump and looking forward to many more miles to come.

Forgot to add details on the bike in the post. It’s an REI Co-op ADV 2.3. Aluminum frame, carbon fork, Shimano GRX 1×11 groupset, with hydraulic brakes. Oddly has a dropper post which I’m not 100% sure on is super beneficial for gravel but it’s there at least.

Took off all the plastic stuff before even putting pedals on. Swapped over my M540 pedals from my mtb, got a cheap kit from Amazon, and grabbed a spare tube at REI. Need to swap over to tubeless before the next ride.

Was just a short 15 mile ride today but loved ever bit of it.

Glad you’re back at it – and on gravel which we kinda favor around these parts! Welcome to the sub-reddit.
