Seems like the bike has dropped its chain and it has caused paint damage. How bad is it realistically?

It’s unlikely that it’s more than damaged paint, but not impossible. The part visible in the photo doesn’t look that bad though

Yeah. Super high chance it’s ok. Bought my current bike with a similar mark and have ridden 10k miles since.

    4. I’d ride it. If there’s fibre damage, I’d wager it’s essentially cosmetic.
Only thing I’d say is worth doing is leaving it to dry for a while and sticking some kind of lacquer over it to avoid water ingress.

My bike had this kind of damage when I bought it and it still lasted over 50k km. It’s from a chain scratch.

    6. I’d say just check there’s no significant deformation etc. Frames are very bulky around the BB area for a number of reasons including this, dropped chains are common.

    7. scratch, corrector paint and protective film 3M F506 above it for the next chain drop.
