good afternoon hello my name is Daniel this is the triathlon down YouTube channel if you are into cycling if I do say so myself today’s video is going to be an absolute cracker so please do hit that like And subscribe button so almost exactly one year ago I posted a video on this channel in which I exposed in my opinion the biggest scam in cycling and that is cycling Shamy cream now I started cycling about 10 years ago and I quickly discovered that I was having some problems down there chafing saddle Saws and like I’m sure you might be able to empathize with me so I started using Shamy cream now I know not everybody uses it I had quite a few comments on the last video saying I’ve never used it and never had a problem and I think that’s fine if if you do or don’t let me know your thoughts in the comments section down below but I was finding that I was enjoying cycling a lot more when I did use Shamy cream so for those who don’t know what it is is essentially a cream that you put either on your skin down there or on your cycling Shamy pad in your cycling shorts It’s supposed to reduce friction it’s supposed to remove the risk of infection also prevent saddle saws and just generally make the feeling down there a lot better when you’re sat on a saddle and I found all those things I found it really worked for me so over the next few years I used various brands of Shamy cream I enjoyed the majority of them and found that it really helped me cycle over the last two to four years I started taking cycling a bit more seriously I’m still not any good but I have ridden fairly frequently and I was just noticing that the the bill you know the cost of Shamy cream was creeping up and up the quantity I was using was was going up open up as I was riding more and it just became a bit more of a a faf having to regularly order it running out of it and then you know being in pain when I didn’t have any and you can only buy in smaller quantities I was Finding so like 200 mil bottles or 200 mil tubs and it just wasn’t lasting very long and it just left me scratching my head a little bit so I researched amongst loads of different brands where can I buy Shamy cream in bigger quantities and the brand utterly smooth came up quite a lot you could buy it in I think about 250 mil or 250 g tubs or or bottles at the time this isn’t sponsored in any way but odly smooth smooth and you’ll see why in a little while and I used that for two or three years now during covid they had some stock problems I did lot as did lots of people so they didn’t really have much in stock so I was Finding I was having to search around a bit more and that got me reading on websites looking at ingredients and trying to figure out what exactly is Shamy cream now utterly smooth themselves State on the website that they developed their product for cow’s orders hence the name orderly smooth but they just discovered that there were more benefits to it than just the other benefits other other you get the point right so they also they Diversified into using their product on human hands face feet and marketing it as such and one of those Avenues was cycling Shamy cream now I couldn’t actually see where they stated that they changed the you the blend or changed the ingredients at all and they might have done but I sort of RIT between the lines and thought they just used their product and just marketed it differently so that got me to thinking well what’s to stop me using an actual order cream because surely Farmers aren’t paying cyclist sham Shamy Cream prices to use UT cream on their cows maybe I should give actual order cream a go and try and Source some UT cream like you know as if I had a her of dairy cows or something and that got me to this point last year where I bought some of this now this is also not sponsored you might find it hard to believe that I did not get a Veterinary supplier on board for this video but this is battles order cream now at the time last year when I was talking about this I’d used it a fair bit but I hadn’t gone through a year of using it like I have now now as I said earlier you don’t really get ingredients on this sort of thing some things you can see some things you can’t main ingredient is water and then there’s again antiseptic properties anti friction properties now this cream describes itself as readily absorbed offers protection against drying cracking and soreness reapply is necessary to ensure continued protection non- greasy and the directions are to rub onto the te after each milking wash other and te before next milking and use regularly for maximum benefit but I thought you know what I’m going to give this a go now what was also a big factor in this was this is cheap in comparison to cycling sh Shamy cream it is very cheap and I thought I’m going to run an experiment so for your benefit in 2023 I exclusively used this as cycling Shamy cream now I need to consult my data for this because I did collect a lot of data throughout the year so let me just run it through so in 2023 I cycled a total of 273 times and I bought and went through three tubs of this now each tub including delivery for 1.1 kilos cost £182 and that meant that each ride I was using this it cost me 20 per ride because I was using 12.08 G per ride in Shamy cream now that was a total cost a £ 5460 for the year now if I was to have used normal Shamy cream now there are lots of Brands out there and there are lots of different sizes and lots of different prices and so on but very commonly you will find 200 milliliters or 200 Gr for 20 I’m not going to name any brands on here but you know one that sounds like sasos is is around that price point and I actually have a friend Lee who used that product and then has tested this and says it essentially feels the same if not better now if I was to have used that product or others it would have cost me in total for the year if I hadn’t changed the amount I used and there’s no reason why I would have £330 and 33 P so I’ve saved something like £270 in a year through using this instead of actual cycling shammy cream and that’s a that’s that’s a lot of money isn’t it 270 or quid you pay your zift membership for the year or whatever else you want to do you might buy a you know set of tires or you know a wheel or two for 200 so that was good however I have taken this one step further now this is quite a big tub right 1.1 kilos of Shamy cream it is a lot but I thought well I’m using three of these in a year so I’m buying one every four months it’s not like it’s an excessive amount can I get it any cheaper economies of scale and all of that well yes yes you can yes you can this is 5 kilos of UT cream from battles from Vel whever I bought it from now I have dropped it and cracked the bottom of it so I just taped it up now this is a lot but based on the maths using the same amounts using the you know same things this will last me a total of 414 rides which if I ride the similar sort of amount to what I did last year will last me around 18 months now that is a long time and this is a big tub so what I plan to do is DeCamp this into the smaller tub and just continue using it but what that does the cost is massive so that brings the cost down from uh 20p per ride and the sasos Shamy cream would cost me £121 per ride to use which is excessive brings it down to 11.4 P per ride and that is like that’s a that’s 1 10p cheaper per ride than using a branded Shamy cream that is around2 or 200 mil so in a nutshell I have a massive tub of cow Shamy cream cow utter cream which which I’m using as Shamy cream I’m very happy with the product I’m very happy with how it works let me know Down Below have you used this since I posted this video last year have you given it a go I’ve had some of my cycling friends that live locally to me test it and give me good feedback I’ve had a couple of people stop me at races most notably I was walking through the expo at challenge Roth last year and a Gentleman stopped me and please do comment if it was you and told me that he was a Dairy Farmer or previously been a Dairy Farmer and he never joined the dots between order cream and Shamy cream but when I’d explained in the video he then just thought yeah why wouldn’t you and had since been using utter cream with absolutely no problem so if you’ve given it a go let me know what you think let me know how much money you’ve saved through using this rather than a proper cycling Shamy cream and yeah let me know your thoughts down below I am sorted for the next 18 months or so of cycling maybe more I’ll see you again very soon for some more Super Niche money saving cycling tips

    1. Just don't use udder cream with liniment. Some creams have it, to soften hard and swollen udders. Being it will get hot. It would probably have the same affect with other parts also.😲

    2. I apply either Nivea cream or Dry Comfort lotion to my cheap Chinese padded underwear before every ride. I can ride for hours on end without issue. But then again, I'm not a competitive cyclist, so YMMV.

    3. This is so insane. I literally had saddle sores for the first time just a week ago, due to chafing with my Selle Italia Watt Gel Superflow saddle. I‘m just getting started with chamois creme and then you drop this video and it gets recommended to me…

    4. People from farm families have known about udderly smooth and similar products for many decades. I did buy one tube of “real” chamois cream to compare with udder cream. I probably won’t bother again. I don’t think there is much difference.

    5. It’s even more insane if you look at moisturizing cream for women. Mostly it’s just added perfume compared to udder cream, but price per gram is like a thousand times more. As a funny side note in a Norwegian blind test of moisture creams the udder cream won.

    6. Back in the 80s and 90s I used to use a product called Silcon by Faulding, it doesn't appear to be available anymore. It was originally used for bed sores etc.

    7. The danger of buying those large tubs is bacteria growing in the cream. I think you need to be very careful about scooping the cream out of the big tub. Use a clean, dry spoon, move a required blob size to a bowl and then use fingers from bowl to your bits. If you keep sticking your fingers into the big tub you may cause bacteria to flourish and thus find yourself with a different kind of painful skin problem.

    8. This is amazing! Perfect timing too, as my Sassos cream is almost out. A couple of days ago I went to order a replacement, almost threw up when I saw the price, and opted to hide my phone under a cushion instead of placing the order. Time to turn into a cow! 🚶‍➡️🧎‍➡️🐄

    9. creams are useless in my opinion. It just makes your shorts soggy/nasty. Try "Gold Bond" friction barrier. It looks like a deodorant stick. I will never go back.
