Hi and welcome to this new bikepacking series. This time I set out east without a clear goal, had to return home though after a couple of days because of tooth aches and after, restarted the trip from Hannover, destination Prague. In this episode I visit the largest monument in Europe, make my way towards Chemnitz and become somewhat grumpy over ridiculous cycle infrastructure
Hope you like it, enjoy your rides and stay safe out there !
Next up: Chemnitz to Louny ( CZ )

hi and good morning from Leipzig where I’m about to to start looking for a coffee as there was none to be had in my hotel room unfortunately sure there’s a cafe here somewhere in Leipzig that serves bread and a coffee anyway the plan for today is to cycle to Chemnitz which is another 90 km or so okay all right see you ah that’s where I ate last night that colossal structure over there is the Volkerschlacht denkmal, Don’t know anything about it so let’s just check it out that’s pretty old largest monent of Europe wow ! I’ll just take a few pictures and then be on my way I’m very late this morning as usual see you it’s actually quite noticeable here in leipzig, the difference in the buildings especially the apartment buildings they already very much remind me of the Czech Republic in Prague in particular so we’re definitely in what used to be Eastern Germany right I am about to leave Leipzig, it’s a shame I didn’t well take more time here obviously but I think I’ll I’ll come back and do a tour on Dresden as wel l and yeah for now I hope to make a few miles cuz it’s very slow going today and I still have 90 or so to go so yeah see you along the way all right finally out of the city this is better must be a big lake there’s a cruise ship on it what a lovely cycle track well done you can’t say that this is safest way to end the cycle path now can you? I fail to see the point to make this strange turn absolutely Bonkers waste of tarmac and my good breath doesn’t look very inviting it is a track and what do you know there’s a cycle track here all of a sudden all right we’re going towards Colditz now that’s a famous name of course prison camp for for lack of a much worse name and well a movie I seem to remember right let’s see if we can follow this cycle path for a while that would be nice well it’s that time again hitting exceptionally bad road surface and then my Mount breaks off had a bit more confidence in this Mount than the one that I I think broke off in Beaune in France should have a spare one somewhere oh man not good but then again not a surprise given the amount of abuse I gave it last couple of days here right I’m going to puzzle for a bit and then see you later right Kohren-Sahlis oh let’s hope for a cafe o that was a rather nice stop with a very good ice cream didn’t get coffee but I think I’ll have coffee in Penig 15K from here all right see you yeah so another climb done still seven to go, small-ish but it’s a good test for what lies ahead tomorrow cuz I’ll be doing double this the amount of climbing and this is this is nice but o it’s kind of warm right I should be closing in on Penig in 15 minutes or so 20 minutes maybe and hopefully I can find a coffee there cuz sure need one all right see you you got to be kidding me oh honestly that was what? 200 meters so why bother in the first place? they still haven’t grasped the concept of cycle lanes yet not completely right, I’m 11k out from Chemnitz and well, the day has been much much harder than anticipated or the legs weren quite there as they were yesterday I don’t know I am absolutely spent but well I’ll just slowly make my way now the last 11k knowing that tomorrow’s going to be a whole lot harder as well but maybe I’ve better legs and we’ll start earlier that’s for sure right yeah terms of landscape was a bit okayish nothing to write home about so I’ll leave it at that for now Fahrrad XXL extra large yes I see a photo opportunity hi and welcome from Chemnitz a city that I haven’t ever been to so there not much that I can tell you about except that I know it used to be called Karl Marx stadt, well that was in the Communist period until 1990 yeah apart from that know absolutely nothing about the city so let’s just do a quick few highlights and then hit the apartment cuz I’m absolutely nackered as always hope you enjoyed this video and enjoy your rides stay safe out there and I’ll see you in the next one so it’s the Roter Turm, red Tower that’s all I can tell you about it oh yeah there a there’s a sign let’s see what it says
