If the lane is narrow like this, then as a cyclist you should ride in the middle of the lane. The driver should be going completely in the next lane to pass you, but of course some drivers are arrogant and ignorant and think it’s fine to squeeze past.

e [Applause] so I’m pretty uncomfortable about this 4×4 behind me really close and there’s not enough room here to share with you I’m afraid if there was I’d pull in and let you over they’re still going to get to the back of the queue ahead of us in about the same time so chill the out a little bit ahead of us around that corner there you’ll have a good opportunity to overtake [Applause] hell mate that was ridiculously close why do you do that that’s a little better I can accept that even though it’s uh still a substandard [Applause] overtake here I’m cool with it there’s my big car thank you like here it’s nice and wide there’s no need to take a lane there’s plenty of room for decent overtakes e

    1. Why can't you ride at the same distance when you win that lorry passed you you don't need to be middle of the road but if you got cameras front and back on your bike and you buy the rules on the roads much as the cars as well we know it is dangerous riding around London and it is getting worse every day some of the things I car drivers do are out of order to drive on the wrong side of the road when a cyclist is on a crossroads turning left and then they go straight into a the car thinks you should give way to them because they are a bigger that is not the case

    2. The driver of the Mitsibushi SUV was without doubt in the wrong, but that's not much comfort to the cyclist if they then end up injured or worse because of the drivers impatience. The road is after all a shared space, not "owned" by either party so when out on my MTB I always try to help drivers where I can by utilising empty footpaths. Not technically legal of course but I find it's safer for me and creates a bit of good will with the cage drivers. Life is full of choices!

    3. I respect you for what you do. But I think you need to address another situation when cyclists jump red lights! I have seen a lot of pederstrians get hurt/injured. It is a problem that seems to go under the radar.
