This is the behind the scenes documentary captured by the fantastic film crew that followed us throughout 2109. We got to know the guys so well over the course of the year as they filmed hundreds of hours of footage of the team from the day we met at Alpecin HQ in Bielefeld in Germany, to our training camp in Italy and then in the UK and France as we pushed ourselves around some of the most gruelling terrain on our bikes.

    What. A. Year!

[Music] 5:00 in the morning we’ve been up for an hour and a half already I feel tired because of how early it is but from the event today I actually I I don’t know I don’t feel nervous I feel genuinely excited about it I mean it’s absolutely amazing out here just the little bit that I saw in training yesterday my first official race did not go that well uh so after 26 km I had a crash and yeah I don’t know exactly what happened I only know that I needed to hit the brakes and then I crash with 55 km an hour so the bike was broken my helmet was broken everything was broken uh except for the bones in my in my body luckily generally I think the training went well I’m definitely fitter than I was in Karo I think I lost 26 lb where’s your daughter uh she’s um with her best friend okay hi I’m Selma I’m from the team upine and um I’m a single mom so it was quite um an experience to prepare for the L up it was a quite busy time and a fun time I cycled um a lot sometimes I even got up at 400 in the morning before work and I had a 2hour session and then showering and getting my girl ready for school and then I went to work so every unit I had to plan really good over the top it will be a long long day tomorrow we have to get up early we will be back very late latest forecast let’s have a look we have um already more than 20° early in the morning for sure you have to prepare everything tonight as you have to get out of the bed and on the bike because tomorrow we will not have the time the number on the bike the number on the Jersey the bottles have to be filled with the content which you want to have in the evening you only please eat what you are used to yeah my strategy for tomorrow is um you know just yeah started really smooth and slow and maybe at the end I try to push it harder if I can I immediately thought back to the Grand Fondo because it was such a big group we had thousand people in the starting area and uh with the select group when I crashed it was like 2 or 300 at the moment I’m like um nervous excited but I’m really really happy too that I can experience all this with all of the team I’ve seen so I was like okay hopefully this goes well don’t go too fast at the start you won’t win the race so so take it easy [Music] [Applause] we started together I think I lasted about sort of three miles with Marco Toto and John only John could really stick to uh to my wheel he lost a lot of weight and you could see that as well when he was climbing he went like a went like a beast and and then I catch David the the big Hamburg guy in The Descent we yeah got together and we stayed all the way together to uh to Valor and then took on valter end which was the longest hardest climb I’ve ever done 36 km all uphill I think the average gradient was like 7% the weather was incredibly [Music] hot nothing can can prepare you for these long Alpine kind of passes and that was it it was the hardest ride I’ve ever [Music] done I cycled a lot already but I never have done an altit ude like that on 135 km so I just want to see the finish line I’m not thinking about it as a race maybe a race for myself but certainly not a race against 15,000 others I guess I’ll be happy if I’m not the last person to finish and then obviously coming into the top finish and you think yes smashed it and then it’s like the last 400 m all uphill 15% again the last 400 meters were yeah crazy and then on the final Corner as we’re coming in some of the guys have painted all team Alp and stuff on the road motivational boost to see your name I think I even shouted out that’s my name it’s my name when you train so much then you have a goal and you finish the goal and you know why you do this but it’s not only about goals it’s just about experience like nature yourself your [Music] limits everything [Music]
