It was a thrilling battle right to the end. But Tokyo Olympic champion Benjamin Savsek has earned the right to defend his gold for Slovenia in Paris.
well Benny congratulations silver medal today but most importantly you got that ticket for Paris congratulations thank you very much yeah I’m really happy to put off this pressure for the uh spot on the Olympics and uh yeah I’m happy to make it um also for the today’s run but uh now I will uh Focus for the for the big race what’s it been like for you the last last couple of weeks waiting for today has it been difficult yeah it is because uh the two best uh can from uh ITF ranking uh are fighting for one spot and uh that’s hard yeah it was a lot of pressure last days but uh I’m happy to to get this through uh really good I saw you I looked at you on the start line for the heat and you I could see in your face that you were you had you were tense you were worried yeah I was a little bit but I was trying just to focus on uh on the water on the gates and uh I was hoping uh not to do any big mistake and uh it was okay yeah it was close you nearly missed the final which would be yeah that’s why it was uh yeah it was really close um but I relaxed then for the finals and uh do my run and uh yeah it was tough but I’m happy did you did you watch Lucas’s run or could you not watch it yeah I was watching in the Finish Line um and he did uh the same mistake as me uh put on two penalties so uh yeah then the qualifications for the Olympics were over after the semi yeah it’s hard isn’t it like you say the number one and two handlers but only one can go to the Olympics it’s it’s tough I think uh we were both afraid of that uh one of us will be disappointed and uh yeah but Benny you now get to go and defend your Olympic gold medal that must be a great thrill for you and a great relief that you get a chance to go and defend your medal yeah it’s a great relief uh and I will uh hope for uh one more Olympic Dreams to come true does it feel different this time than before Tokyo do you feel the same how do you feel uh I feel good I’m happy to uh be there and uh race on the Olympics I I mean compete on the Olympic Games well Benny congratulations I know there was a lot of pressure today so youve probably answered some questions about yourself too about dealing with pressure because there was a lot of pressure today and you you taught yourself that you could do it yeah that’s good for uh for the future for the big races that I can handle this pressure so well done Benny enjoy the moment and we’re looking forward to seeing you in Paris thank you very much
