Under strict restrictions, we’ve managed to take a distanced view of some of the bikes ridden in the 2020 Tour de France. Mads Pedersen’s Trek Madone, Richie Porte’s Trek Emonda, Peter Sagan’s Specialized Tarmac SL7, the all new 2021 Factor 02 VAM, Alejandro Valverde’s Canyon Ultimate CFR and more!

hello welcome to cycling tips i am dave and we are in nice on the ground at the tour de france obviously things are a little bit more difficult this year you’re going to struggle to understand me even more but we are here trying to get you all the latest news or the latest gossip and all the latest tech we’ve dashed around a few hotels talked to a few teams but obviously a few are quite reluctant to hand over the bikes which is understandable but we have some beauties to show you van of emma gets trevor toucher gold on his medium giant tcr advanced sl for an extra year what with the olympics being rescheduled until 2021 we hope it’s kitted out with all the best bits obviously ccc are one of the 17 teams out of 21 starting the tour de france that using shimano group sets ccc kicks the bikes out with dual hdi2 with greg’s personal gearing ratio being 54.39 up front matched to an 11 30 cassette bars and stems are also manufactured by giant in this case it’s the contact slr model with a 42 bar and a 130 millimeter stem wheels are very fancy kdex 42 millimeter deep tubulars what is odd here though is that their tubulars a product that from what we can see isn’t actually available to the public the usual kdex 42s are actually tubeless the wheels have not just carbon rims but carbon spokes and hubs it’s classed by kadex as a wheel system rather than just um a wheel glued to the wheel system i’m hopefully keeping greg stuck to the road a victoria’s ever popular course at 26 millimeter tubulars here we’ve got richie port spike richie port is a gc favorite from team trex alfredo and he’s riding the brand new 2021 emonda which they’ve updated to be a little bit more aero james actually did an amazing review on it recently so that’s on cyclingtips.com if you want to check it out but yeah this bike is a favorite amongst the riders more riders are riding the amanda than ever let’s take a closer look port setup is mostly nothing out of the ordinary though being a small guy his bars are a skinny 38 centimeters this is matched to a short 100 millimeter stem the group set is sram etap axis with 5239 chainrings up front matched to a 10 30 12 speed cassette on the back wheels are from trek’s in-house brand bontrager and are a 37 millimeter deep aeolus wrapped with italian manufacturers pirelli p0 tubulars saddle is also from bontrager and is the popular aeolus pro finally this is all hung on a 50 centimeter frame [Music] we’ve got a bike here for a gentleman who’s probably older than you the statesman of the peloton valverde now he’s on canyon’s new ultralight bike the canyon ultimate cfr this thing’s crazy like they have shod the frame weight down by 300 grams to a crazy 675 grams the fork comes in at 285 grams and we’ve been told from a distance that this thing may have to have a few little weights in there to bring it up to the uci legal limit group set wise the team are using sram this year which is a first they’ve departed from campagnolo which they’ve used for over 20 years here valverde has got a 10 30 cassette on the back matched to a crazy 54 41 front it’s all red etap axis the wheels are zip nsw 303s now these aren’t the new fire crests these are actually re-decaled to go with the whole new graphics from zip the tubulars and the tires we’ve got on there are 25 mil continental competition pro limiteds these are really popular in the peloton keeping him secure in the bike at akio max pedals from luck we’re quite surprised at how slammed forward the physics saddle is as well and another thing that’s interesting about the setup are the levers they are really turned in quite significantly compared to other riders one interesting little thing that we have noticed which is what you usually see at the cobble classics is that the bottle cages actually have a little bit of grip tape in there to keep them in place these are stealthy graphics not the usual light blue and dark blue that you see on all the other bikes that the team are using next bike up and it’s one of the three leaders from the movie star team enric master young 25 year old probably about half the age of valverde he is not on the new fancy top dog model he’s unwell you know the bog standard ultimate cfs lx it’s a small size frame we’ve got the red e-tap axis group set from sram it’s the same wheels as valverde the zip 303 nsw’s and again 25 mil continental competition pro limited tubulars unlike valverde’s bike which has a zip seat post this comes with the standard canyon seat post and topping it off is the physics short nose ago saddle a design that was popularized by uh specialized with the power saddles another thing that we notice with these bikes just like valverde is them levers are tilted in quite significantly [Music] we have managed to get to the borah team bus and behind us is the man who’s going to be going after a green jersey sagan’s bike we’ve managed to take a look at it and he’s on the new tarmac sl7 which won’t surprise anybody kit wise he is running the new specialized rover rapid wheel set shod with the specialized turbo tires in a 26 mil here he is the man himself good day sir hey question are you a batman fan there we are they’re rolling out to the presentation and in the new jersey as well it’s running the full draw race di2 group set crank length is 172.5 he has got a 54 39 chaining on the front running with an 11 28 on the rear bar width is 44 stem length is 14. oh and another interesting little thing we found out is that he actually runs the wider pedal axle on the shimano pedals so here we have the road bike of the world champion mess peterson he opted for the madone instead of the emonda because it’s still the most aerodynamic road bike that trek makes my favorite thing about this bike is the paint job that’s classy and understated while not being too over the top but still stands out rather dramatically trek did this paint job for mess after he won the world championships in 2019 and the bike also includes a bunch of really cool stickers and decals that kind of highlight mess as a person and also as a bike rider like port and the rest of the team mess is on the sram red etap axis 12 speed mess’s cockpit consists of a 17 degree drop 130 millimeter stem matched to a 40 centimeter bar narrow bars are becoming a lot more popular for riders making it possible for them to squeeze through gaps that they wouldn’t have been able to with the wider bar frame size is a 58 centimeter gearing is a 54 41 with a 1033 in the back wheels are bontrager’s aeolus xxx6 the unis grenades freshly renamed after a 4×4 truck that looks a lot like a land rover has released their new freshly painted pinarello for burn neal he is using pinarello’s dogma f12x light this bike sheds roughly about 100 grams over the bog standard f12 from the images we’ve been sent through because it is a little bit tough to get close to the team it looks like bernie’s group set setup is a pretty standard 39-53 chambering up front matched to an 11 30 cassette bar and stem are from pinnarello’s in-house brand most physics provide the saddle and tires come from continental finally for the last spike in the video we’ve got something special the new factor van from the israel style nation team now if you know the factor brand you will know that this looks radically different from the old van which is factors lightweight climbing bike now we don’t know much about this bike because well the team won’t tell us anything but it does look radically different to the original vamp there is a few design cues that have clearly been taken from factors time trail bike the slick and from their aero road bike the one a lot of the components on this bike also come from factors in-house parts brand black ink we’ve got the black ink one piece bar and stem on this bike which is ben herman’s the bow whip is a narrow 42 with a 130 stem the wheels are also from black ink with the 60 mil deep rim on the back and the 30 up front the group set is from shimano it is the dual race di2 now what’s different about the israel style nation team is that the groups that’s not actually sponsored by shimano they actually go out and buy this themselves this allows them to customize it a little bit and back here we’ve got the ceramic speed oversized pulley wheels making things that little bit smoother ben herman’s choice of gearing is a 54 big chambering 39 in a match to an 11 30 cassette now new to the world tour peloton is maxis they’ve never sponsored a world tour team before and the team are using the high road model now what you may notice is that these have got a little white box on them this is for the mechanics to be able to write what tire pressure they are whose ties are whether they have a prototype tire these tires are actually a 26 mil width up top on the top tube in one of these very slick grooves is the number 100 in gold now on a side note this is actually the age of the five of the team owner who passed away just two weeks ago okay that is it from the team bike roundup here at the tour de france we do apologize if we’ve not got all of them because well it’s been a little bit difficult shall we say but we hope to bring you more tech in future videos so stay tuned also give us a like give it a subscribe jump into the comments below let us know what your favorite bike is and until next time thank you for watching and enjoy your riding

    1. would love for bike brands and their manufacturers to make bikes actually to spec. In that when you buy 10kusd frame or even at lower pricing, you get the goods. Near voidless carbon frames and concentricity the likes that #Specialized only designs but never/rarely orders.

It is akin to false advertising and actually needs to stop. Sure I can buy a #walmart carbon frame for a low price tag but expect it to be shite; whilst expecting that but companies making these grand claims; I’m not feeling paying a CEO+marketing – any goods that meet said claims.

(thank you to the real engineers who have to build new bottom brackets, dealing with misalignment and concentricity; understanding real world problems and then dealing them; all for a modest price)

    2. Disc brakes really spoilt the look of the bicycles. it truly is the biggest gimmick in the history of bicycles. it is really sad. Great to see that the biggest pro teams are not using disc brakes.

    3. Sram finally realised that 48tooth chainrings & 10 sprockets are all the stupid. Was gonna steer clear of ETAP axs but if they offer 53/55s upfront then I may change my mind
