A day off the bike from my cycle tour around Greece. Instead, I show you some of the things to do in Ioannina. (Full blog post here – https://www.davestravelpages.com/best-things-to-do-in-ioannina-greece/).
Positioned at something of an overland crossroads, many people travel through Ioannina overnight or just stop long enough to sleep and carry on their journey the next day. I think that’s a shame, as there is plenty of things to see in Ioannina. At the very least, a full day of sightseeing in Ioannina would be time well spent, seeing the city’s historic centre and enjoying stunning views out over the lake.
Bike touring budget:
I spent today – 30.10 Euro
Average spent per day so far (10 days) – 33.83 Euro

good morning this is Dave from day’s travel pages comm and this is day 10 of my boat tour around Greece today no bicycles instead I’m going to take you on a walking tour around Yemen ah here we go for most visitors to Yanina it’s little more than an overnight stop that’s a bit of a shame because this charming town has a lot to offer from cozy little cafes to history rich museums there’s easily enough to see and do here for a couple of days if not a bit more if you’re only in town for one day though I would strongly suggest strolling around the historic centre this is really the heart of old Yanina and it shows influences from the Christian Muslim and Jewish cultures this is a place where you can find bars and coffee shops and also a lot of the jewelry shops for which the city is famous in fact the city is known as being at the city of the silversmiths I would suggest visiting the Municipal Museum when in Jana na it’s a bit of a walk up to the top but the views are certainly worth it in addition it’s a ridiculously low price of just two euros to enter the opening times you can see there on the video once inside the fortress you walk up and you can see the remains this was an ottoman fortress and you can still see some cannons laying around as well as are the fortifications and buildings as you might expect from the fortress the views are awesome this is a view out onto the lake and I’m gonna come all the way around because not only is the lake very nice but there is also a mosque behind me which you probably can’t see very clearly because of the sunlight it’s very rare for complete mosques to be preserved in Greece since the Ottoman rule but this is one of them the mosque no longer acts as a place of worship but instead acts to demonstrate how the three faiths of Christians and Muslims and Jews live side by side during the Osman period it has a small collection of artifacts such as costumes pottery jewelry photographs and other documents and what particularly caught my eye was some of the furniture the time and effort it must have taken to create these masterpieces is something I think we’ve since long forgotten [Music] [Music] so I’ve just finished walking around the Municipal Museum here in Ioannina I was really interested in it documents three communities which are the Christian Muslim and Jewish community and this displays inside it goes through the history of each it’s very interesting place to visit so that’s definitely one for your list of things to see when you’re in Ioannina on to the next place next stop was the castle and there feffy mosque the castle and the mosque are where the Byzantine and Ottoman heritage of the town is the strongest located in the historic center the castle of Yanina was built in 528 by the Emperor Justinian so these are the fortifications of the southeast Acropolis in Ioannina [Music] it’s my right here with the flag that’s a poison time Museum closed on a Monday I’m just behind that is the mosque which looks pretty impressive time for the end of day round up there today I spent 30 euros and ten cents and I think the lesson of the day is take some time out for the bike tour to see some stuff as well thanks very much for watching if you like this video please thumbs up subscribe to the channel and I’ll catch you in the next one cheers for now

This type of art is still quite popular in Turkey (and probably other countries) – you can buy handmade backgammon boards as well as furniture. They are quite pricey, but it makes sense as they are all handmade!
