Episode 5: Cycling around the world for Great Ormond Street, Slovakia and Hungary

[Music] I can see Eastern Europe I’ve made it I’ve almost made it Eastern Europe woo in Slovakia I think no border signs but everything’s changed just looks up what hello in Slovakian is aoy so I’m now a pirate oh it’s an amazing amazing feeling to get to Eastern Europe [Music] man I’m in [Music] Hungary oh two countries in one not bad is it still so weird that I’m here so 400 is £1 fair enough all everyone uh just a couple of miles away from the campsite had a lot of fun today it’s really cold just to be somewhere entirely new Hungary is going to be my uh country of travel for the next week or so so be nice to get used to it it’s always uh I don’t know you always feel a little bit sort of uh anxious I don’t know if this has the right words probably not that much but it’s you always have just a little apprehension is probably the right one there always a little bit of apprehension when you enter a new country especially one you’ve never been to before just cuz you just think well what’s it going to be like you know and uh it’s been a lot of fun just seeing two completely new countries in a day and uh it’s nice feels like I’ve got past a a point now where I’ve made some quite big inroads in the trip morning everyone hope you’re doing all right uh second day in Hungary pretty rotten sleep last night uh just having a bit of problem with hay fever but it will resolve itself I just need to get some that nasal spray cuz I couldn’t breathe last night really uh which wasn’t fun wonder if there’s a rivalry between the three churches I’ve never seen three churches next to each other before hi have a safe journey you think this ride’s Free Buddy oh oh yep see yep the scarel and they know there’s a charge Tesco Express just left the little town of gor there actually a really nice little town uh just got my hey fever medicine so hopefully soon I won’t have to keep editing out all my sniffles all the time that’s really fun and hopefully I can sleep tonight fingers crossed that’d be more fun the editing is one thing not sleeping is another thing oh I was going to just take a moment to say a massive thank you to all your donations and everything towards uh great Alman Street and what you’ve Don so far um some really nice messages as well it’s really lovely to go in through and read them uh which makes a massive difference isn’t it while you’re doing something like this every pound you give goes towards A really lovely cause and uh if you don’t know what a great or Street hospital is it’s a children’s hospital that treats children varying conditions from children that are terminally ill to children with uh sort of conditions that make their life quite tough um and being a teacher I taught a few students who um you know struggled and went to Great Orman Street and they were treated by them and they spoke volumes about how great woman Street treated them and helped them and I thought it’d be really nice to do my little bit just to help that hospital out and you know the funding that we rais together goes towards helping those children uh things from entertainment all the way to treatment and so forth so just just to take a moment and say a big thank you morning everyone hope you’re all doing okay uh just heading off uh towards following the danu about 1 day away from Budapest today so it should be quite good I don’t know why I keep saying about following the danu uh so I’m just going onto the Slovakian side of the uh border today uh the campsites in Hungary but just over the border on the Northern side of the river so it should be nice to follow that side with g at the moment who’s uh doing a trip he’s doing 100 miles 160 km a day0 km cycling pretty much to the border of uh to um Syria and to go which yeah yeah which is uh where the earliest sort of signs of human civilization come from from 10,000 BC so an amazing trip and good luck to go here just having a little chat exchang some photos and emails so wish them all luck in the comments as well be going a lot faster than me I probably went in beer turkey by the time he’s finished so talk to you later guys [Music] [Music] hello so Basilica scrum I don’t know if pronouncing the name right built in the 1800s it was uh it’s the largest Catholic Church in Hungary so I’m not going to see any church as big as that rest hungry is really pretty seen it for Miles hi everyone hope you’re doing okay just about to leave heading for Budapest today uh going to stay there for two days which would be lovely just have a break for a day I need a day just to not really do anything and have a day to see the city as well it’s only10 a night at the hostel looks like a really nice hostel it’s like a four bed mix storm so hopefully it shouldn’t be too noisy hello hello [Music] morning everyone hope you’re doing all right uh now 3 days later I’ve had two days off uh two very restful days in Budapest uh which has just been really nice um so just basically I’ve just stopped here as you can see got new sunglasses the other ones were’re not doing the job anymore of all the white Pavements and stuff and the other lens on those uh scratched up uh these were quite cheap I got a little mini uck as well just so I can lock up the rear wheel so no one can just roll off and rip the bike off which off the lock and go so that’ll do the job um and B just had a walk around buest I’ll upload some of the pictures while I’m talking really nice sort of couple of days really really nice city if you’re down this way um so today I’ve got about 60 Mi planned uh just leaving the hostel which has been quite restful it’s really quiet there only like four bed dorms so I slept pretty well bunch of old London buses is think they have an unlimited budget for signs in this country look at them all I think the uh bike paths disappeared just riding with sah here at the moment Hello nice to hear a familiar accent and uh just been a nice company today we’ve been enjoying the very flat tarmaced roads that we’ve been on today mostly dirt paths and everything uh just pling along uh not thinking much of the eurella 6 are we wow morning everyone just about to head off we decided to leave the danu route as you saw it was quite a deplorable State yesterday uh so we’re going to be heading towards Serbia um we’re going to be about what 10 Mi away I think from the border uh so going to basically just head down that way and then head towards Belgrade about a 4-day ride rather than a 5-day one so I think that’s a pretty much a better deal little bit Sandy bit dhar action going on here
