if you have a bike in the shed and you want to ride it to work more then Hills can be very annoying now you could go and buy an ebike but they can be very heavy and they are definitely very expensive but what if I told you that you could take this and add F1 power to the bike that you’ve already got and I mean literally any bike maybe not this bike but anyway today with the help of our friends at switch we’re going to do just that a huge part of what I think will make this appealing to a number of riders is the price this in its basic form is just £299 if you get your name on a weight list and you’re happy for delivery to be later this year if you haven’t got the patience for that then you can get it now for £599 or on a payment plan for £28 a month that makes this one of the cheapest if not the the cheapest legal ebike conversion kits on the market it’s certainly cheaper than buying an ebike outright in fact I bet you could pick up this thing and a secondhand bike for less than the cost of some new ebikes right enough talking should we go and fit this installing this thing is apparently so easy that a like me could do it in their lunch break that’s not switch’s exact wording but I’m going to give it a go anyway the first bit to get is this front wheel now this is a pretty standard 700 seat road wheel but they do this kit for 26 27 1/2 in as well if you want to go smaller than that be that for your folding bike or something else then you do need to go up a level to the switch air kit that will cost you a bit more but it does look very [Music] tidy that has literally taken us half an hour and a spoon but the Michelin tire is off if this is all getting a bit too complicated for you well don’t worry there is a super detailed manual which I’m working from and switch even do free video calls with their mechanics if you’d like someone to talk you through the process so now I need to fit this magnet thing down by the crank now this is a pedal assist system which means that it only works when you’re pedaling and that’s one of the things that makes it legal within the UK very important just a quick note while we’re here fitting the pedal sensor does require a little bit of space between the frame and the crank itself now our Boardman was a little bit snug so we had to take the non-drive side crank out by about 3 mm it’s just a quick word of warning check your bike before you buy with that on the battery goes on next the more expensive switch air has a rather Nifty bar mounted design this gokit however it keeps things simpler to keep the cost down but it does allow you to fit one of three batteries for up to 20 40 which I have here or up to 60 M the bigger batteries bump up the price I’ll put those on screen right now but all of these batteries do comply with the highest UL safety regulations which can’t be said for a lot of budget aftermarket conversion it all attaches via these velcro straps which can be moved allowing you to position it in different parts of the bike well everything’s on now so I just need to wire it up thankfully it’s just one simple cable how easy is [Music] that that’s all plugged together now and it is worth mentioning that this is all ipx6 waterproof which is great if you’re going to be commuting in typical UK weather I think this is all ready to go now so let me just finish my coffee and then we’ll head out for a [Music] ride well here we are out on the bike and instantly you can feel the power from the 250 W Motor I’ve got absolutely no problem keeping up with you guys without even breaking a sweat can commuting by bike is actually really really good for you but it can get D getting a kit like this just allows you to do that commute without arriving into the office or at the shops or wherever you’re going or sweaty and let’s be honest for most of us that’s all we want throughout the week this is the best fun ever so that Hub is actually a low drag Hub and that means that if you don’t want to run the motor then it feels kind of just like a normal bike so when you stop head in it’s great the real nice thing about this system is that it’s very upgradable so you can have different battery sizes depending on the riding that you need to do the 20 M battery which is the smallest and the cheapest will do loads of short flat commutes but if you do need something a bit bigger at least it’s available to you and then there are accessories like this OLED display here on here I can see the assistance level my speed the distance that I’ve covered and the battery level and that upgradeability is great because it means that you can customize it to actually suit your needs oh and another real cool thing if you just come in close here from here I can change the assistance level with these buttons that means that if I’ve got a super flat commute or a ride like we’ve got back to the office in a minute I can just keep it on two or if I’ve got a massive Hill coming up of which there are a few in Bristol I can just bump it up to five that’s going to help me to really extend the battery as much as possible I think that’s really Nifty so with a boatload of power that’s pretty simple to get on your bike I can see the switch go being a very very popular option for a plethora of commuters but what do you think of this kit and actually do you even need an ebike for commuting well I put that to the test last summer so why not go and watch that video right now it’s just up there thank you so much to switch for providing us with a go kit to make this video if you like the idea of this kit then why not give this video a like and if you want to subscribe to the channel that would really help us out we see you next time

Would you add ebike power to your bike?
Hello😊
Super to easy install, also if it's too complicated for you
Unfortunately both you and Swytch fail to mention that it isn't compatible with thru axle bikes, so it doesn't really fit ANY bike. Apparently a thru axle kit is in development.
Meh!
I have zero interest but from an aesthetics view when was the last time the bike industry used silver wheels, feels like 20 years.
1:09 "I bet you can buy this conversion kit and second hand bike cheaper than some new e-bikes"
Amazing. But can you get this conversion kit and second hand bike for less than second hand e-bike?
I agree with other's critiques, they can adopt more modern designs and contemporary innovations for the front wheel itself. Swytch been around for many years, it's a pre-pandemic innovation. Its also a great gateway d.r.u.g. to get into e-biking!
The Swytch website is horrible.
I have one of these on order. Hoping to give my old 90s 26” hardtail a new lease of life!
When the battery finally kicks the bucket, you are going to have to replace that black box that also houses the controller. How can you guarantee that this will still be produced in the future? That's the problem I have with these ebike companies. Once the battery needs to be replaced which could be 3 years from now, do you have to ditch the whole bike?
Impressive bit of kit.. 😊 nice overview dude 🚴🏻👍 Pete
Blocking bike radar for this video.
I like 👍🏼
I'm guessing you could have front wheel rebuilt with a rim of your choice to match the rear? 😐
UL certified ?
Fabian Cancellara likes it
Second hand cheaper than a new one
I would hope so.
I'll go recumbent before e-bike.
👎
I like it, whatever gets more people on bikes is all that matters.
