Hundreds of thousands of children cycle to school every morning in the Netherlands. Kids cycling up to 15km one way are no exception. The roads and streets are literally full of cycling children for about one hour. The “cycle highway” from Geldermalsen to Culemborg is one such road. Hundreds of children going to school take the same safe route here. They form spontaneous groups and the closer they get to school the larger the groups become. When the school bell rings and all the children are in class, the cycle highway looks as deserted as it was before the kids went to school.

This looks almost like the peloton of a road bike race😅💪🏼
Not Just Bikes sent me here.
I wish biking to school were possible in my country. There is literally no cycling lane here.
1:36 “Drie van de vijf doen VWO. Eigenlijk vier van de vijf, want ik doe ook VWO.” “Nerd!!!”
“Three out of five attend VWO.” (short for preparing scientific education. A form of secondary education which prepares students to attend university in the future. It is the highest level of high school you can attend. He meant three children out of that group of five children, because only 18% of students attend VWO, so that’s a smart squad) “Actually four out of five, because I attend VWO as well.” “Nerd!!!” (~Probably that one child who didn’t attend VWO, hahah)
For any Trump supporters out there..
Please notice the wind turbines…without piles of dead birds, as Trump claims.
But, what a civilised way for kids to start the day…independently, without “mummy in her 4 x 4”.
Great….
These were my classmates hahahaha, what a weird thing to see after 9 years
Lol that's my way tot school
Lol I actually went to school at the school shown at the end
Imagine being that one loser who goes to school in a car
You don't need Soccer Moms in the Netherlands.
Teenagers should not need a parent to go to s friend, sports or club.
I still cycle on the exact road every day to go to school, have been for the last 7 years. Haha
Most school kids cycling there are from neighbouring towns in a bout a 12 km radius
You would never see so many bare heads in Australia.
This is my hometown! I found this video being used on the not just bikes yt! I regonised it immediatly
This is also the highschool I went to!
Yep their kids are more fitter than ours
What used to be carbid bicycle lighting is now led lighting. But the cycling and the bicycles have remained the same, for at least a hundred years – to school on the bicycle, in any weather.
But how is the oil industry supposed to sell oil?
But how are gym companies going to sell memberships?
But how are construction companies going to sell highways?
Not everything is about money, it's about efficiency and quality of life.
Wow. We rode bikes to school in Norway, too, despite steep hills, but that was short of two kilometres. Can't imagine cycling 15 km twice every school day. Granted, the Dutch don't have too many hills, but still. That's impressive.
Naar Culemborg gaan, failliet gaan.
Notice how they aren't suffering from childhood obesity, I don't think I saw a single young person with that challenge there.
Fantastic to see – and how cyclists need to be protected from being killed by motorists
"Supervise the youth."
AlhamdulIllah, there's not a single crazy climate-change denying commenter telling us of the supposed superiority of polluting cars. Everybody here is sensible and supports this calm, relaxed cycling to school.
No congestion, no pollution, yes exercise, yes fresh air, no expensive car or fuel.
They are lucky
This just popped up and it's 10 years old. These kids are lucky to have such a pleasant cycle to school. I cycled to school in the 70s in Scotland. It was first down a long hill, once a man shouted at me, Slow down, I'm trying to get past you! Cycling home up the hill on a wet windy day was less fun. I must have looked a bit strange, long hair, flared trousers with one leg rolled up and a bike with 16inch balloon tyres. Some of my friends had part time jobs delivering shopping or meat from a butcher shop, all on specially made bikes with big baskets.
My school is so Close to my Apartment that i can WALK to it.
Dont forget the social part. Conversation tends to flow more easily while exercising
Igualito que acá en México!
No helmets tho
Hallo hoe gaat het? Means in the english: Hello how are you?
Fun fact: images of this video were used in the Avondshow met Lubach (conditie van kinderen around 06: 40)
Very nice
Hahahah, I actually go to school here! I cycle this way here every day, about 15 km from Geldermalsen. I recognized it from another video that put your source in the comments
As a cyclist, I noticed many of these kids peddling with the middle of their foot. That's a sure sign of a novice which surprised me greatly
Not a singel obese kid…
This is unimaginable in the US. I hardly ever see 1 kid ride their bike to school, let alone hundreds.
Trying to get rid of my car………biking daily
No need for pe class…..
Not an obese child in sight, wonderful
– But how do schoolchildren get to school during snowfall, blizzard or just rainy, frosty days with sub-zero temperatures – aren't there enough such days a year?!
Every country should have bicycle lanes , way to many cars on the roads not healthy emissions ect
We had an eight kilometre bike to school every day until I transferred after three years, there was no real bus connection so when it snowed a lot our parents drove us and sometimes took our friend too 😊
Look at all those hooligans!
