Finally received my custom Project One-ordered Trek Madone SLR 6 AXS Gen 7 after waiting almost (4) months. Apparently they don’t keep 62cm frames stocked, so it had to built and then the SRAM groupsets were backordered (I optioned 170 cranks w/ 48-35t front rings and a 10-36 cassette). There was a small snafu on the seat mast (couldn’t get seat height where it needed to be on the longer mast), so I’m running a mismatched color for now until the right one comes off backorder. At least it matches the logo! 😅
In the end though, the wait was worth it! Happy to be off the TT bike, after putting 4000+ miles on it in the interim – no fun being stuck on the flats/hills when you’re surrounded by mountains (I live in the Sierra Nevadas) – although it’s done wonders for my flexibility and comfort getting into the drops on the Madone.
Really impressed with the weight too: sub-20lbs despite its size – never thought I’d notice heft, but hauling 5lbs less up inclines (compared to the TT) really does make a difference for me!
.. and for those wondering about the frame size choice, I’m 6’2.5” with odd proportions (long trunk and short arms/legs for my height). The local bike fit guru (shout out to Kevin Bailey of 3D Bike Fit) got me on a Retul size bike before ordering, and mimicking the specs of the largest Madone was the only option for the necessary stack/reach to maximize power without compromising comfort (I do a lot of 5+ hour training rides). Wouldn’t have believed it until I felt it, but the fit transfer was perfect, and this Madone is infinitely more comfortable than the 58cm Emonda (with the same H1.5 geometry) I ran last season, with no loss of power.
