Before we headed across to France from Ireland we decided we needed to do something big. The previous 16 months had seen lockdown after lockdown and we were ready to break free and explore. So what better way than cycling from Dublin, right across the country to Galway…in a single day! Our previous biggest outing on the bikes had been a 200km ride back in Australia on our road bikes. Our plan here was a 240km ride (so we thought!!) on our gravel bikes fully loaded with camping gear. Easy right??

Enjoy the ride and be sure to check out some of our other videos.

Our website https://www.seektravelride.com has lots of great information about cycling in France. If you are thinking about a cycling holiday over there make sure to check it out.

  1. Great video it's looks like you were on gravel bikes or using gravel tyres would a road bike with 28c tyres be suitable or do you need something bigger

  2. Man you guys like to overpack! I've done Galway to Dublin but I didn't go on the canal route as I prefer the rolling countryside route. When I head to France this summer I'll be travelling super light – two sets of bibs & tops, two tee shirts and underpants, lightweight runners, one pair of shorts – basically whatever can fit in my 15 liter tailbag and no more. A small top tube bag for wallet / snacks and all tools etc go into the frame (my trek domane has internal space for that stuff). Full service with new chain, cassette, cables & tyres (tubeless) before leaving and it'll be grand. If the bike weighs more than 14kg things will get removed 🙂

  3. Very cool. How many hours total did the trip take? Trying to gauge whether a return trip is doable over a weekend.

  4. Well done. I am planning this trip for the end of the month on a tandem. Can you tell me the route please? I actually live beside malahide myself. Cheers

  5. Cool trip. Cycled from Leicester to Dublin (via Holyhead) over 2 days last year on a single speed. Hope to do the full journey from London on a geared bike next year👌
