Hello 👋

Welcome to Sam Shutt Farming, daily life on the Hill farm

This is Sam and Oliver plus 4 children farming beef sucklers and sheep in the North Yorkshire/Cumbria border area.

We are first-generation farmers, and we’ve had no help at all to get to where we are now. We are here to show you our life and what we do. I am also here to show new entrance that it is possible to start from scratch. Being strong-willed, determined, and a lot of hard work, you can do it.

We are both from farming backgrounds. I grew up on a family dairy farm. Milking from a very young age.Working for my uncle when i left school. I’ve learnt everything from him and grown ever since. I met Oliver when I was 16 he was 15. We started with a few sheep when we met and have built up over the 16 years to where we are now. We took on a 500-acre hill farm in 2019, currently 5 years into the tenancy.

Also, here to show people women can be useful in the agricultural world.😉😁

    1. You are an inspiration as a mum and farmer. Hopefully you get some rest time in each day as the pregnancy goes on.
The lambs on my friend's farm get tail and knackers banded much earlier in life, like on day two or three. Why do you leave it so late ?

    2. Happy Mother’s Day Sam from the USA what gender is your baby? You’re an inspiration to all farm Mothers I look forward every day to see your videos keep smiling girl

    3. As an ex Yorkshire man, but worked sheep in the North of Scotland for the last 55 years it`s so nice to hear my mother tongue. I did not notice you doing anything for Ticks, because we are polluted with deer there are Ticks crawling everywhere, another greedy board required i think on the fert spreader, whenever i tried putting the extra in, i landed up spilling on every bump and corner. Lucky you being able to walk your sheep to the hill, White van man and dog walkers stopped us doing it from about 10 years ago. Retired now but so nice to follow you and see the different methods of working.

    4. Watching Cammy – Sheep Game in Ayr
Cowley Hill Farm and your channel

You don’t need to spend money on a Gym Subscription

You just need to keep lifting the lambs
      That exercise

Now the weather has turned for the better

      Plenty of warm sunny weather

We still want a little bit of rain say once a week but not every day over the last 4-6 months

    5. I’d be careful showing practices that could be picked up on. It could come back to bite you…
Brave putting all that fert in. Hope he didn’t lose any.
