On May 9, 2024, I took part in the Les Boucles de Gayant, a 10km race held in Douai, approximately 70km from my hometown of Saint-Quentin. Here’s Part 1 of my journey.

i’ got money I’ve got keys do it here we go for hi today the 9th of May 2024 I’m going to do a on my bicycle it’s the first time I’m doing this kind of expedition and I have about uh 3 hours and 43 minutes of cycling ahead of me or so I thought it was actually 8 hours the itinerary Google proposed is around 70 km if you’re going on a bicycle otherwise it’s an hour’s worth of ride if you have a car so what am I going to do in Du I’m going to run I’m going to participate in a race uh a 10 km race and it’s an opportunity for me to discover France I mean I’m a Kenyan in France so it’s the least I could do uh I can’t wait to see the pesage meet people and just cycle for 70 kilomet yeah so let’s go I’m going to cycle really slowly tril more until I get to do it here’s how my first kilometer looks like I got some energy it’s taking it easy and I got to be careful you know watch out for cars and whatnot Google is proposing weird itineraries just look I had to go through that my shoes are already muddy and I’m not even I’m not even at the race yet I’m hoping for the best oops and about 200 M I’m going to turn left look at that it’s a beautiful aolan I got to walk I’m just so glad it’s not raining for 1 kilom and a half I have to keep going that way I’m going in that direction it’s a little foggy I can see birds there’s this beautiful aen look at that elen it has three blades on it so so big three giant blades it’s the most beautiful aan I’ve ever seen we got these weird plants plant [Music] yeah all right now this is complicated there no way you can ride here no way you can ride here oh no there’s no way you can ride around here what the what the Google is weird for this one bro let’s find out holy is there a rout up there somewhere I don’t know where I’m going it’s muddy I wasn’t expecting this mudy as hell it’s not even rained yet Place say you have to stop and walk because it’s way too muddy I just help you keep going I found a beaten path my shoes are all muddy I finally reached what I can call civilization because there’s it’s a road tamak road and yeah I’ve made some observations so far there are a lot of lap y la for early ENT and par tril La V just so I just reached it’s a beautiful place huh and uh looks good I have uh 64 km to go according to Google according to Google Maps I have 3 hours 22 minutes left and so far so good thank you for your time after a gring 140 km Journey my bicycle shows uh signs of wear the back wheel blew out you can see the inner tube is hanging on the Cog set on my way back from du at about 30 km away from San cont the right pedal began rotating freely making it difficult to cycle efficiently it’s almost miraculous that I made it home the chain also slipped off the chain rings on several occasions but I managed to fix it and um this experience has taught me that you can do anything you put your mind to and also it has reaffirmed the principle where your attention goes energy flows thank you for watching

    1. Pretty impressive. One morning when I was 19 I was depressed so I decided to go for a ride until I could see the Arcachon Bay (I live near Bordeaux). It took me around three hours to arrive on the beach of Andernos I think, for only 50 km and the road was concreted, straight, like a kind of highway (but with an old bicycle, no brakes at all).
I guess your bike was not designed for muddy road…😬
Hope that you're doing well in France.

    2. Enjoyed this episode. 140 km is commendable! I could relate to the struggle of trusting google maps. On time it led me to someones private property, it was deep in the farms and all I could hear were dogs barking. Ended up on a dead end, a wall basically but google kept insisting there was a path behind it.
