coming up on this week’s GCM racing news show Pacho continues his dominance at the Jalia but is he getting too greedy with Stage wins no he’s not I’ll let you know why that’s my opinion as well as wrapping up week one of the race the isula women’s the Tor of finestra and a tour Hungary in which Mark kavenish officially became the best Sprinter of all time this week in the world of racing we learn what aj2 have been flying this year the brown shorts were holding them back well them shorts I think since they got rid of them it’s it’s made a big difference and uh yeah so many riders in that team uh performing this year and winning races and uh sorry uh I’m glad you I’m glad you’ve apologized for yourself say me a joke we say we say it so much when we’re out of commentary and you you guys all say it so I’m not the only one only have said it on here sorry we also learned that Luke PL might like to try out a new bike and finally we learned that it’s pacha’s teammates who are encouraging him to continue his dominance at the Jiro Talia today my plan was not to win but uh Mikel and veger had different plans they we Molano ruie they did super good job the first uh climbing downhill and the flat part so then we set the pace so there’s not too many attacks on the first long climb and uh yeah Mikel survived really good and vard also so yeah uh we spoke in the radio if we let go the stage or we let or we keep the Gap and yeah Mikel and vard said yeah no if we are here we pull for the stage and they did amazing job today and uh without them I would not win stage eight marked his third stage win at this year’s Jud atalia a race that he now leads by 2 minutes 40 seconds over Danny Martinez of course we’re all expecting him to dominate The GC but there was lots of speculation and opinion on Saturday as to whether or not he and his team are getting a bit greedy and chasing down the break and not letting others have their chance at glory absolute rubbish in my opinion this is top level professional sport pagata is paid handsomely to win bik races he wants to win and he wants to pay his teammates back for their hard work How can there be anything wrong with that we’re not living in the 80s or ’90s anymore where favors were given banked and returned between teams and Riders the sport has changed in so many respects over the last decade and this is one of those changes it’s it’s not up to Pat or UAE to give things to others when they’re capable of winning themselves it’s up to other Riders and teams to figure out a way to win of course that’s far easier said than done when you’re up against a phenomenon like patcha who’s now won 10 times in 2024 from 19 days of racing speaking to gcn on Saturday off the stage Matt shakman of Bor hansra spoke about patcha being next Lev making the rest look like clowns and that sometimes the public don’t understand how hard it is against him you can read that full interview over on our website Global cycling network.com we’ll put a link in the description Bel below another thought that popped into my mind is that there isn’t the same reaction from fans and commentators when there’s a dominant Sprinter at a grand tour for example who was complaining during the tour to France last year when alind kerning chased the Breakaway down in order for japser philipson to win his fourth stage of the race it’s assumes that on the days that have the potential to finish in a Sprint teams like Alberton will shatter the dreams of the Breakaway and nobody has a problem with that well it’s the same on Summit finishes why wouldn’t you bring the break back and take another stage win well there is an answer to that question historically GC teams have often tried to be conservative in their approach trying to save energy where possible not just for their leader but for his teammates it appears that every Rider from UAE has been pushed close to to their limits on at least three stages over the first week and there’s a chance that they’ll pay for those efforts once we get into the final week of the race whether that makes any difference to pog himself is a different matter he’s generally quite capable of putting fires out on on his own something that he’s proving time and time again at all Races including grand Tours he’s competed at six during his comp career so far and in five of those six he’s won three stages last year’s tour was his worst ever in that regard only the two stage wins on route to second overall there’s a decent chance he’ll go on to win more than three in this jro of course any bets as to how many more I’ll go with five I’d love to get your thoughts on this though do you think paga and his team are overly greedy or are they well within their rights to win whenever they can let me know in the comment section below anyway despite pacha’s dominance it’s been a thoroughly entertaining first week of the race the gravel road stage was particularly good despite a lack of changes on the general classification it took well over an hour for a breakaway to go up the road that day but when it did we had some really big names in the break ala Philip and Pla were amongst them and along with the Lesser known poo Sanchez they fought in out for the stage win in a turnup for the books perhaps it was the Spaniard who took victory that day disappointed and probably quite surprised Al Philipe in the three Sprint stages so far mer Milan and KY have shared the spoiles between them merer underlined his status as the world’s fastest Sprinter on stage three whilst Milan underlined his credentials as Pretenders to the crown a day later that guy is an animal isn’t he he had a great lead out from his team well partly lead out and partly chasing down Gana but he had time to start his Sprint a little earlier than he’d have liked it didn’t make any difference though he averaged 1620 Watts for the final 20 seconds with a peak of 1940 watts and 75 km an hour it’s not particularly pretty but there’s no arguing those sort of power outputs that guy is going to win a lot of races it wasn’t for him on yesterday’s stage though after what was a thrilling finale Olaf Koy passed the Italian and late attacker Jonathan navarez just before the line adding insult to injury for navarez and inos he probably would have won it had it not been for Pat’s monstrous turn to lead out his teammate Milano it’s been quite some time since we’ve seen the leader of a grand tour doing a lead out on a Sprint stage and whilst Milano didn’t win he did manage third on the day which is his best result of the season so far and a tip of the hat to narez he has having a hell of a face that was a big finale to watch the other brilliant win came on day five Alon deer forced the pace on early climbs that day putting the sprinters in trouble and catching the early Breakaway in the process it was a tactic that came back to haunt them though as a strong for Rider move went clear in the second half of the race amongst them was Benjamin tomat of team kofus who outwitted his Breakaway companions in the finale it was a fantastic one to watch he was willing to lose in order to win and it paid off that marked his first win at World Tour level so obviously his first Grand Tour win too and it was the first win of any sorts for cofidis this year it was also great to see Michael vren coming so close the D had a horrific crash a couple of years ago and has spent the last two years trying to get back to his best well the hard work and sacrifice has paid off it might not have been the win that day but it must have felt like one of sorts a quick look at how things stand in the various classifications now it’s Milan that leaves the points going into the week two these are the standing he’s now f 58 points clear of groves with koi just one point further back in third bat is a k mainly courtesy of the 100 points he picked up from his two stage runs whil Kean oer Brooks leads The Young Riders classification having briefly rescinded his lead to Luke PL after stage seven individual time trial the GC looks like this patcha with a 2minute 40c lead over Danny Martinez who’s been looking superb so far and 2 minutes 58 seconds over Grant Thomas in third okona despite the time he lost on op after trying to follow patcha is now up to Fourth overall he’ll be pretty hopeful of ending up on the final Podium to be fortunat and Rubio will all be pleased with their sitting on GC you’d have thought whilst arensman is back in the top 10 after a disappointing opening two stages he could be an important card to play for anyos later in the race highlighting the chasm between picat and the rest though the difference between first and third on GC is bigger than between third and 10th but anything can happen in cycling and in particular the jro ditalia or maybe I’m just catching at straws either way you can watch the rest of the race live and uninterrupted on Discovery plus Global cycling network.com right onto the tour of hungry now and you might be wondering why it was the race that meant Mark Cavendish is now officially the best Sprinter of all time well his win on stage three in front of grunen puts his career tally up to 164 one ahead a certain Mar Chini it’s now 18 years since cavendish’s first win at 0.1 level in 2006 his longevity is almost as impressive as his win rate and whil it wasn’t the most stacked Sprinter field it certainly wasn’t an easy win Dylan grun wagan took second on the it was a man at the other end of his career who was making waves on the heler stages though TBO took his first world tour win just a couple of weeks ago at to of romandy and in Hungary he backs that up with first overall stage win he beat Diego leasi in an uphill Sprint on stage three having caught Bookman close to the finish and then got the better of Mark Hershey on another tough finish one day later he might have a way to go to emulate his dad’s cyclos career but he’s already eclipsed his results on the road little Trek have already had brilliant year but with n and Milan amongst others the future does look really bright for them too doesn’t it and the present as well to be fair let’s be honest Sam wilsford had won the opening stage the race making his non-inclusion at the jurry seem a bit bizarre whilst the fifth and final stage Was Won by another man snubbed for the first Grand Tour of the Season while polls n suffered a lot more on the final day but vant defended the overall lead winning the points competition to boot meanwhile at isula Women’s there was another dominant performance from SD Works Pro time but not from one of their Champion Riders Misha brendal beat alen Sierra and teammate Demi voling in a Sprint to in the opening stage made it two from two 24 hours later and what was a much more selective parkour it gave her a 14-second advantage over mavi Garcia going into the final stage unfortunately things unraveled for breal on the third and final stage even if they didn’t for SD Works Demi varing took flight on the final climb of the day with over 30k to go catching and passing a substantial size Breakaway one by one Juliet labus was the last Rider to stay with her but she to succumb to following pace and the Dutch Champion had a 22nd lead over the top by the finish line that Advantage was 44 seconds more than enough for her to seal the general classification as well as the stage third on the day and second over overall might still have felt Bittersweet for brendal but it still means that SD Works remain unbeaten at the race they’ve won every stage and the overall since its Inception in 2022 and just finally to C A to continued their incredible 24 season at the tour of finestra on Saturday with Ben K winning his fifth race of the season in a small group Sprint that was the Caton’s 14th win of the year so far four more than pater in those standings UAE are now a long way ahead of everyone else on 33 little Trek are now up to second on 19 with n and Milan adding to their tally last week whil fisma Lisa bike remain on 18 with all their woes over the last couple of months they haven’t taken a win in over six weeks now right that’s all for this week I’ll be back again next Monday to wrap up week two of the jro the six day long four days of Don Kirk the Welter burgus and venelle venelle it’s a busy old time of year isn’t it see you then
