Tadej Pogacar and Eddy Merckx have similar regins in their eras of cycling and it seems clear there is something closely related between the two in terms of palmares and dominance.

in the world of professional cycling few names ignite the excitement of cycling fans around the globe like tacha the Slovenian sensation has been dominating in the pelaton with an aura of invincibility that seems unparallel in recent memory to other writers since he joined the world tour in 2019 after winning the toural lair and joining the ranks of UAE yet admits the Jubilation surrounding his victories and all in spiring performances there lies a chilling truth that few seem willing to acknowledge T Pat’s trajectory eerily mirrors that of the legendary Eddie MKS often hailed as the greatest cyclist of all time pacha’s rise to prominence has been no less remarkable than Merks despite his youth he’s already eclipsed many of the sports most illustrious records and shows no signs of slowing down his ability to perform at such a high level across a variety of terrains sets him apart from almost all of his peers and really does invoke memories of mx’s own versatility on the bike as we delve into the depths of this comparison it becomes apparent that there are parallels between paga and Merks extend beyond mere statistical analysis it delves into the essence of their dominance the manner in which they command the pelaton and the fear they even instilled in their Rivals at just 24 5 years old taga has already amassed an impressive array of Victories including back-to-back Toral France titles and the impressive statistics that he’s never finished below second place in the race as well and winning three different types of The Monuments a feat which is been achieved only by a select few in cycling history Eddie MKS is the greatest cyclist of all time with no Rivals it seems with wins in all Races apart from par tours famously but winning all the the grand Tours and all the monuments a feat that is not even close to being achieved by the modern pelaton as the rate of specialization has really grown over the years but paga is really the Enigma that transcends this statistic for the comparison to be somewhat Fair however we will look at The Monuments Grand TOs and the age at which it was achieved to give a good comparison between both Eddie MKS and tatcha in the monuments Eddie MKS has a total of 19 wins and pagat to this day has six wins to his name however at the same age as Pacha is now Merks had seven victories in The Monuments but he had also participated in more monuments compared to what Pacha had at the same time Pacha having an incredible winning rate as well of more than 40% compared to mx’s 30% given that he took part in all almost all of them every year and this was a reflection of the era of racing but when we look at specific ones here it gets quite interesting Pacha of course is yet to ride par Ru we all want to see it but it still hasn’t happened in this race of course Merks has won a total of three races and has been quite dominant in the race Pacha however has won Tor Landers as he did in 2023 on his second attempt at the race whereas Merks was only successful on his fourth attempt in 1969 and he won it once more again a few years later in 1975 Pacha also surpasses The Goat in another Monument IL lombardia where Merks managed two victories and a few podiums but paga here has a supreme 100% record winning on his first attempt in 2021 then defending that in 2022 and then going on to win 2023 in an emphatic fashion and he could maybe even eye the alltime record of the great FAL copy who had five victories to his name the sheer panach of Pacha the nature that he just climbs through all these races and we haven’t even got Star biani as a comparison because unfortunately the race is too young for Eddie MKS to have raced it in 2023 as well Pacha had The Sensational achievement of doing something that MKS hadn’t done by winning Paris niece the stage race and hster gold flesh valone along with the two monuments of Tor Flanders and IL lombardia something that Merks never did he never won Tor Flanders and E lombardia in the same year and the differences of these races really indicate just how versatile tacha is as a rider even in this modern era but now coming to a different monument and that is Milan Sano and this is where Merks is really in a league of his own with seven victories in total and it seems like Pacha is somewhat in the wrong era for his attributes to win this race perhaps with so many great punchers in the modern day pelaton watching his every move it will be difficult for Pacha to win this race at all to be honest equaling Eddie M’s record in this race is certainly impossible even for T gacha equally lier Bast another one favored by the original carnibal of the field having won five wins from 10 participations and two wins at T pacha’s age so they’re actually equal at this because paga has won this race in 2021 and in 2024 from four appearances so they’re quite evenly stacked here for the tour France there is a similar comparison in Domination of their wins Picachu won the first two additions he took part on as well he won the Pok Jersey and the white jersey in each of these editions are truly a magnificent feat Merks in his first editions at the race older yes but still dominating winning six stages in his first Tour of France and then eight stages in the next one and all the available classifications but in his era the white jersey was not available so he couldn’t win that Pacha was a lot younger when he won his first race being the youngest winner of the race since the second world war when he defeated rogish on the final time trial in laan De belfi and they have an equal amount of Tours to their name as the same age however Merks had three more stage wins on top of this and Ms as well also had two jalas something that Pacha doesn’t have and we might see Pacha win the Jalia in 2024 Merks and Pacha also have one appearance at the welta spia at very different points of their careers Pacha was a debutant not only of the race but also of grand tour racing but that side he ran Riot with the race picking up three stages and a step on the final Podium whereas Merks was a season Champion when he did the well Topia and won the race comfortably yet for their similarities there remains one glaring difference between taga and Eddie MKS the era in which they competed in while MKS faced formidable opponents during his Heyday including Jack ontil and feliche jamond pagat is dominating his opposition tremendously with ease and no mercy given like the style of the cannibal with a great number of Rivals in all terrains from Macho vandero to yoris Bingle but so did Merks there could be an argument that the levels are closer in the modern era but the scary truth is that on some aspects T of gatcha mirrors the dominance by Eddie MKS and in others he even surpasses him despite being in this era of specialization but perhaps the most unnerving aspect of Pat’s dominance is the insatiable hunger for victory MX was renowned for his appetite for success and often competing in multiple races within a single season and emerging Victorious more often than not similarly Pat has demonstrated an unyielding desire to conquer every race from Cobble to gravel to even Grand Tour and he certainly is a remarkable Rider to say the least pacha’s dominance has coincided with a transition in the sport with the retirement of established Champions such as Alberto contador and venzo nebi and even the downfall of Chris vro Pacha has emerged as the Undisputed leader in terms of all terrain of this new generation of Ryder but in the midst of the celebration of his achievement we must not lose sight of the daunting reality that lies before us Tat’s rain at the top of cycling World shows no signs of ending and and if history is any indication his legacy May well rival that of the great Eddie MKS himself as we bear witness to his exploits in the years to come let us remind us of the Eerie truth that looks beneath the surface greatness knows no bounds and tacha is destined for immortality that’s basically it for this video make sure to hit the like button if you haven’t already and subscribe 1. It is still too early to compare them. And even when Pogacar is older the comparsion will be hard because the sport has changed so much. Anyway he is just amazing and a joy to watch

    2. pogacar firstly needs to be better than bernard hinault
pogacar has failed 4 times at san remo which has 2 climbs at final kms
a goos indicator that pogacar will never win roubaix which is flat race
also pogacar doesn't win time trials too often

    3. Pogacars nickname can be "The Pogromist." A "pogromist" is one who organizes a pogrom: an organized massacre of helpless people (cyclists)…ha ha ha ha ha ha ha …

    4. With total wins you can't compare them. Merckx rode on average 100 races a year and pogacar 50. So pogacar wins ratio is nearly the same. And in grand tours these era there is often a attacker who wins a mountain stage, and in the time of Merckx it was more like who is the best, wins the stage, so 34 stages in the Tour for pogacar is impossible to achieve.

    5. Amazing riders. Merckx was before my time. Very exciting to be able to follow the path of Tadej's successes. With the current state of cycling's science and technology it's hard to say it's an exact apples to apples comparison, but Merckx achieved his success without those benefits. That said, their passion to compete and win are very similar

    6. What if as they rise young the also down young… there are already examples but there are always analysis case by case… alaphilipe lost the 'edge ' when the 1st baby born… is easy to dismiss the fact that they are young and have nothing to lose… they enjoy and risk at the same time but what if they risk something… you can see that those if as a baby born make changes in pro cyclist… one day pog will have something that makes him on the spot of thinking and then is no longer edgy… just saying this can happen we can see this

    7. One monument i hope Pogi doesn’t matche is the amount of positive doping tests Merckx had. 4-0 so far to Merckx….. in fact at the comparable stage of their careers Merckx was already 1-0 on this shameful front. Their records would not be comparable as Merckx would have had a lifetime ban by today’s standards and he would not amassed anywhere near the number of victories his palmares shows. The arrogance Merckx still walks around with and the adulation organisers demonstrate when they roll out the old “doping dinosaur” is comical. Cycling will never truly heal until it addresses ALL its dirty past.

    8. It's a pity that those images of his victories early on in his career will be tainted thanks to those ridiculous mask mandates.

    9. Pog is literally a once in a lifetime cyclist. Its super rare you get a guy who is a GC beast and also a one day specialist. He reminds me a complete and more consist version of Primoz Roglic. I think one thing Roglic has over Pog is his mental toughness. I’ve seen Pog crack much harder than Rog and I’ve also seen him lose his cool. Just makes you wonder how good Roglic could have been if he started cycling as a kid. One thing that I’ve noticed with Pog is that when he trains and focuses on the spring clsssics, it tends to effect him at the Grand Tours and usually his first GT of the year is The Tour. Taking part in the Giro might make him even more susceptible to cracking. You can’t train for one day races and stage races at the same time. It’s very hard to be super competitive at the monuments and the GT’s in the same year.
