I ordered a brand new Domane Sl5 gen 4 from the trek website and had it sent to my nearest Trek dealer. I picked up the bike yesterday and have yet to take this thing out for more than 2 miles. Seems to me like they damaged the paint while installing the bottom bracket. Is that possible?

What should I do?

Thanks.

That’s likely not damage, that’s the press-fit adhesive which secures your bearings. The adhesive does damage paint and can stain the paint. When your bike was assembled, some adhesive likely got spread around. If you purchased the bike new, without a sale, you should be able to have your lbs file a warranty claim. They may reject it but you never know.

  2. I think you’re correct. The bottom bracket tool probably slipped during installation. Bring the defect to Trek’s attention.

  3. It is damage, that’s a T47 threaded bottom bracket. Someone used a damaged tool or a tool that’s supposed to have a plastic ring on the face of the tool that didn’t have the plastic. Take it back my guy, unless the damage doesn’t bother you, it’s all cosmetic

Return it or ask for a discount. Ask Trek to step in if your LBS doesn’t want to do anything about it.

You paid for a brand new bike; that’s a damaged bike.

  6. U should gonna to them they will exchange it for you same thing happened to me ..

I think it’s a chain drop, perhaps on an earlier test ride or during shop final assembly
