    1. Is this an aesthetic restoration or a functional one? If it’s a kids trike, a beefy chunk of hardwood could suffice. I’d measure the shaft diameter so I could fashion a bushing, perhaps out copper and order some shaft collars. The bushing would sleeve into the hardwood with Polyurethane glue.

Four properly sized [shaft collars keep the pedals aligned on the spindles.](https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/shopping?q=tbn:ANd9GcSTixtiuGGbK8kFSsFNvydNkEv5XcTFXd-pgjUNn3dK71xqTXpBx7rZk5UY_m3K-QZLl8z3OO-vJDTmnVejBuJyLKUxxQuK9t1vuy-3NO-R50RZbxY5hcGnCDs)

Edit: or just remove the spindles from some appropriately sized metal pedals, grease up the insides of the pedal bodies as bushings, and the aforementioned collars to keep them in place.
