How do professional cyclists deal with wet weather? At the 2013 Vuelta GCN spoke to the pros before and after stage 14 about an unusually rainy day.

Stage 14 was a cold, rainy and mountainous stage in the pyrenees finishing in Andorra. The terrible weather lead to seventh place man Ivan Basso withdrawing from the race with hypothermia.
Riders have their rain bags in the team cars, but on a day like this it’s almost impossible to keep warm and dry, with a number of riders dropping out of the race and there simply not being enough clothing to keep the riders safe from the elements.

Thanks for the lovely comments guys! Really means a lot to us that you're enjoying the videos.
Great
i think there is no way of arranging a better YT cycling channel, perfect videos.
Thanks GCN your channel it's interesting, i follow you and i love
Keep up the good work GCN! I'm learning so much from this channel!
i agree with the cannondale rider too much is better than too little
Do they stay with the slick tires or switch to a tire with a little tread on it for better traction in the wet?
I felt like Graham (Brown?) of Belkin at 1:13 needs a hug! He sounded distraught at the prospect of wet weather. Real sense of dread in his voice
Do the Pro's have anyone to teach or guide them in how to wear there cycle helmets properly (Cannondale rider at 0.59) seem's there are allot of Pro's who haven't got a clue how to attach there helmets to there heads, for there own safety you'd think they would fit them correctly, & if I was a helmet manufacturer sponsoring these riders Id be having stern words with the riders & teams !
I'm convinced Hansen is an X-Man ? lol 3 tours he's done this year…and done them all last too ! – how the hell does he do it…could GCN find out ??
This channel is so professional. Congrats and thanks for the inside scoops.
is Alan Hansen the only one who where's those shoes at 0:31
Nothing wrong with his helmet position.
Just ride harder!
Fat Bikes are slow. Don't create much wind chill!
they didn't enjoy that I"m sure…except for the stage winner
vaseline on arms and legs = warm even in pouring rain
Slick tyres have better traction in the wet because bikes don't aquaplane. A wider tyre might be useful though?
It's his own brand. He makes them and has his own carbon shoe company.
Another great GCN vid. Top-quality stuff with full 1080p HD. Definitely deserves more views!
Yes your correct with the head position of his helmet, but look closer my friend the strap at the back is loose ! I'm pretty sure the helmet manufactures do not design there helmets so the straps are loose, they should all fit snug to the head in order to utilize there full safety potential ! I'v also seen many a Pro with the straps dangling loose under there chin's too(when strapped up) !
In a straight line yes slicks are fine but in the corners and under braking I would feel much more confident with a little bit of tread. There is no way a slick tire and a treaded tire cope with wet weather the same under braking and cornering.
Tyres with tread would be faster for you then as this is cycling, not moto gp so confidence is the only thing that makes the difference. I trust my life with sheldon brown though:

Oh I see what you mean, but I think what you're looking at in this instance is actually his sunglasses. Not sure but that's what I thought they were. If it is his helmet strap then yeah that looks wrong to me too.
I believe you on the Bikes not hydroplaning, that was never my question. I was questioning the amount of grip available in the corners and under braking before the tire starts to slide or locks up in the case of braking. Thanks for the link though.
Who was the guy at 1:20 putting on arm warmers? Obviously he could outride me any day, but doesn't he look pretty big to be a pro cyclist?
Ironically, that is Domenico Pozzovivo of AG2R, who probably weighs something in the region of 55kg (8.5 stone, or 115lbs).
He won a mountain stage of the Giro d'Italia last year, and came 3rd in the individual time trial here at the Vuelta, behind Cancellara and Tony Martin.
Well than I was obviously completely wrong. From the one shot it looked like he had a bit of a belly.
