Connal Tours European Cycling Adventure. The ABC Tour – Adriatic to the Baltic Cycling Tour.
Cycle Day 31: Wolgast to Stralsund via Greifswald (Germany) 79.1km (226 vm). Travelling west along the Baltic coast. Fishing harbours, beaches, jetties, holiday towns, happy people, kids going to the beach. Thatched houses and red brick. Still some half-timbered. Beach villas and beach cottages. More single-storey bungalows in the small coastal towns. A retired nuclear power station. Still large expanses of crop lands & John Deere dealerships. A large dairy with self-serve fresh milk, ice cream and other local products. Locals just turn up with their milk bottles for filling. Everything so easy and a pleasant ride then with 20km to go: 15km of relentless cobbles. Resting at the end of this & guess what – first flat tyre after 2000km. M1 rear tyre. Stralsund – Old City is UNESCO listed. St Nicholas Church (13thC) and RatHaus dominate the square. Many old, old red brick buildings. A Hanseatic town. St Nicholas an evangelical Lutheran Church – one of the earliest. Dinner on the Harbour front at Speicher8 in an old red brick wharf side warehouse that has been given new life. Large modern building is an oceanarium. Ozeanium – highly rated. Overlooking the long bridge to Rugen Island. Pomerania – historical region on southern shores of the Baltic – Poland & Germany.
Day 31 of 7 weeks cycling the 2400km from south coast to north coast in Europe and a little bit extra.
