The Basque Country CRASH Just RUINED The Entire Season

The Basque Country crash has been one of the worst crashes we’ve seen this season, and perhaps even in the past couple of years. It has caused several fractured and broken bones, concussions, scrapes, cuts, and a punctured lung, that severely affected multiple teams in the peloton, and their futures. Luckily, no injury was life threatening, and all the riders were in stable condition, but the number of superstars involved in the incident might have just completely changed the outcome of the biggest races on the calendar and completely ruined the season for many teams and riders.

    1. The tree root bumps caused lack of weight on the tires and they lost grip going into the turn. That is why other riders had the same thing happen even though they were not directly behind the rider who fell. Most of the riders interviewed said this. That said, these are some of the most extremely fit professional athletes in the world. Their bodies recover far faster than an average person that the weeks estimate for these injuries use. I think they will all be at the TDF barring another event like an illness from a weakened lung. to the riders who fell, and get well soon, we already miss you.

    2. How could you state early in the video that no one was responsible, of course someone was responsible, the Race crash was caused by the organisers of the race for allowing the race to be held on such a bad road surface, but then again the only people who count are those who are not riders, that is clear as day as the teams have continued the race, they should have stood as one and retired on block.

    3. I don’t understand why they don’t fill those concrete trenches with straw bales (square or the round ones) when they are clearly a hazard on a corner. Cheap, reversible and lifesaving.

    4. Just remember, Tadej broke his wrist last year, compromising his preparation. Although mistakes were made, these things happen in cycling. I enjoyed the classics without Wout as well. I will enjoy the Tour de France as well, Tadej vs Primoz!

    5. Due to sickness and injuries this is shaping up to be a forgettable season. Im not interested in watching MVDP and TP do 50km solos over and over again. I respect them for being great but its a snooze to watch.

    6. I’ve been saying this all season – year after year, these riders are showing the TDF enough respect.
Who cares about the outcome of these small races?

    7. As a fan of Vingegaard I don't want him at The Tour unless he is at 100 %. I'd rather see him fight for La Vuelta if he is ready and willing. Feel so sorry for all of them, though!

    8. Rib fractures: 6 weeks to significantly less pain but they take the same time or longer to heal than any other bone because they need to move (for breathing). Contrary to what the video states, they are not healed in 6 weeks.

    9. Parallel this crash to the poor Georgian luge racer in Saachi (2014), who ended up dead after a new course's final(?) turn launched him backwards into a vertical iron beam.
That event saw, overnight, a plywood wall installed AFTER the poor basterd died…

I'm sure the UCI and Catalonia organizers WISH they had foreseen such an obstacle and protected their prime assets: the riders.

They must contract with cyclists (retired racers) to RIDE these courses, not cruise in Skodas.
      😮😮😮

    10. A bit dramatic to say it ruined the entire season. Other riders will need to step up and Team Directors will need to adjust tactics. It was a terrible crash and I feel for those injured, but that is part of cycling.

    11. Principal reason for the crash is Evenopoel isn’t making the corner. He’s inside and ahead of the rider who washes out his front, who probably out braked himself panicking about running out of road.

The sound of the crash appears to cause Evenopoel to bottle it and off he goes. Others behind stop looking through the corner and focus on the riders crashing… and carnage ensues.

    12. lol i like how cylclists try finding a "reason for the crash". the reason was rider error, they should have slowed down. maybe tighter spandex might work……

    13. I won’t be watching the tour this year it’ll be boring and upsetting watching pogacar mocking and dropping everyone feeding his ego, yet not admitting or realizing he’ll win because evenepol and vingegard are out.

    14. No it didn't. Saying such is basically telling the rest of the pro peloton that they might as well stay home. Racing is racing, competition is competition. Two old ladies racing their walkers up the Tourmalet neck and neck is still racing. don't shit on the rest of these kids just for clicks. Anyone truly believing what you wrote isn't a fan of the sport

    15. The footage of the incident is only a tiny fraction of the video, but it looked to me like many were trying to ride through the crash & come out ahead rather than braking hard in straight line, stopping, assessing & restarting. Even in Formula One competitors back off & stop. Competitive cyclists seem very prepared to accept risk to themselves & others.

    16. Yeah that’s why I’d never ever ride again with those stupid thin tires.
Nothing else but Gravel for me.

If I want danger I go Mountainbiking!
