The 2024 edition of Paris-Roubaix saw road world champion Mathieu van der Poel take a dominant win. He attacked the lead group with 60km to go and by 50km, the chase had given up trying to bring him back, but as with any edition of the race, it was the tech that also had people talking. In this video, Sam Gupta shares the top 5 hottest tech trends to come out of this year’s race. We saw everything from massive chainrings, custom chain catchers, to gravel bikes and some really big tyres. Let us know, which tech trend do you think defined the race?

34mm 'big volume tyres' – I just spit out my coffee… Sorry for me 34mm is as low as I would ever dare to use on Scottish roads and gravel
Aero bikes in roubaix. 😂🎉
One by does not optimise chain line. Come on, get it right.
Strange, there’s no 700 x 34mm STR GP5000. There’s a 700 x 32 S TR and there’s a 700 x 35 AS TR but no 34mm tyre in any spec.
MVP didn't have a puncture that's why he wins 😂
No point saying spoiler alert if you then immediately say who won. Either don’t say it or leave a little pause. And yes, I do appreciate that it is unlikely anyone would watch this video before watching the race
The IPT placing had nothing to do with the bike, because, it was a great choice to go with the gravel version, where the geometry is good enough for the road and excels in the cobel sections. The riders are the problem tbh
Why is the peloton so slow to change? No reason any of these guys should be running less than 45mm. Probably 50+ ideally. Oh well, maybe in 30 years they'll ride decent bikes. Also, all of this concern about aero, but the entire drivetrain is exposed to the wind, and in gravel bikes, dirt and dust. Why has no one come up with a drivetrain enclosure? 1x drivetrains are a good step
LoL Factor was willing to sacrifice any sort of competitive edge just to show off their gravel bike.
Wow its amasing
5:20: MvdP's chain is about to be dropping.
Having one chain ring limits your gear options.
Why would somebody want to have 12 gears when they can have 24?
This is not evolving forward we' re going backwards for sure
This brake system has destroyed road cycling.
In order for them to help shed some weight they needed to remove the front derailleur and a chain ring making the crank a lot lighter.
The cycling industry has to be the most corrupt sports organization in the world
Everyone should have been on gravel bikes
Aero road bikes are just a sales pitch by big bike. True aero is a Tri or TT bike. Making a "aero" road bike where the rider is in an upright position and the bottles hang over the sides of a "aero" down tube makes everything else that's "aero" about the frame useless. The wheels, clothing, and helmet is about the only thing that's really aero that can help a rider on a road bike.
The LoL Factor was willing to forgo any semblance of competitive advantage just to flaunt their gravel bike. It was a spectacle of devotion to their passion, a bold declaration that style and substance could harmonize on the rugged terrain of their chosen ride.
Aero bikes with wider tires is the key factor.
Really interesting stuff!
Also, NO GLOVES for MvDP! Wow. Almost everyone else rode gloves. Lot of hammering on the hands for a very long time time. He’s just exceptional, that’s all! 😊
You talk GCN's guys alike. It is irritating!
Do they even sell chains long enough for some of these big chain rings? If not then wouldn't that make the bike UCI illegal?
Call me crazy. New SRAM Red doesn't have a front derailleur. Just like they did with XX1.
Or perhaps Israel-Premier Tech would have had even worse results on a normal road bike
Gravel bike's still not a selective choice in such tough course race!
Disqualified for a sticky bottle. Ok. Then they need to disqualify everybody who hangs onto a bottle for anything more than a second. They all use the sticky bottle. That trek with the weird dissected seat tube…..nuff said. Well, one more thing about treks, if i may. Their association with a well known doper makes me laugh at trek owners. You are riding them as shamelessly as he did.
Goes to show that they're all pretty much gravel bikes at this point once rim brakes are out of the picture, reinforced hubs, BBs etc. Not a knock, just an observation
@5.20 "no gimmicks or tricks up his sleeve", may be cause for some to roll their eyes and have a little chuckle to themselves- not me of course!😅
