What would you look for in a $1000 bike? 💵🕵
Huh? Rim brakes will be around for decades. I can't believe you guys even entertained the thought that rim brake parts may not be available in the next few years. I live in an affluent city in Australia, yet more than half the bikes I see are still running rim brakes. That includes mine. It's only the skinsuit cyclists wearing $1500 worth of shoes, clothes and helmet, and $300 of sunglasses that are running hydraulic disk brakes but won't touch them personally. They will book them into the shop if they have brake problems, like a squeak or something. The extra level of complexity that hydraulic disc brakes add to the bike is a real issue that new cyclists can't see through. But it's great for bike shops. If they can milk that teat, I'd say go for it. The bike shops are going to do the work and shut up. Most riders would throw up their hands and just book the bike into the shop. Rim brake problems can be sorted by idiots like me, thankfully. Also, rim brakes work. They have worked for a long time. If you have alloy rims they'll stop you very well. I'll be using them for a good while yet.
Hang on. I thought you said you were going to show Ollie your helmet. Dude, you're a bit of a wierdo. I'm disgusted I'm somehow caught up in this mess, but that's what happens. I don't understand how military awards are somehow awarded. I'm just disgusted that somehow I've been tarnished with the same brush some ppl use to ridicule those who use the most heavily tarnished language, and use it on YouTube.
bikes are overpriced.
I think "used" for a 1000 USD/£/etc. also requires a fair knowledge of what you personally need and can amount to a lot of time spent on market research. To avoid that, "new" at your trusted shop might give you a hassle free entry bike… Actually just went through the process for a 2-2.5k bike… Did all the market research, still ended up buying "new" 😂. Just couldn't find THE bargain on used platforms… 🤷🏻♂️
At first I though the helmet is cool! Until Alex said I should keep my thoughts to myself, if I don't like it…. Now I'm not sure anymore! 😀
For $1,000 I got a 2015 full carbon Ultegra Scott.
The best way to buy a bike is to work at a bike shop and buy it for wholesale 11:12
Ollie's bike… Axel gave the correct result. Very precariously leaning against that wall. Shadow stand required. And for the love of god, give the ground a scrub! Only a nice from me.
About increasing the speed of ebikes, one of the delights of cycling is the ability to go off road on to bridleways and cycleways. If you increase the speed of ebikes there will be a cadre of cyclists who will always go at the max speed. The inevitable result will be legislation to stop ebikes from going off road. If that’s what people want, get an electric moped.
No way a correct profile saddle with a good shammy is enough on bad roads. My 19 mm tops thick Assos Kiespanzer shammy is not enough on Finnish freeze thaw cycle ad infinitum cracked roads. If you use an unpadded saddle like Selle SMP most of their range. I have had swollen bits to prove that. So please stop spreading fake news. You are better than Trump for Crissakes.
i dont think theres anything wrong with mechanical discs or rim brakes for people on a budget that arent racing etc, when i started cycling i ran mechanical disc brakes on my first bike after a while riding and working on my own bike i learned how to adjust and set the brakes up to perform more efficiently (single side tektro) granted the Trp spyre twin sided would be better, i think mechanical disc/rim brakes are so easy to work on and maintain they are underrated in the beginner category 👍🏼
For folk living in the UK, Halfords are currently offering the Boardman SLR 8.9 for £900, reduced from £1,200.
Go for steel!
On de-restricted e-bikes, why not adjust regulations to motor power of 125w, this should bring the speed down to max 25k unless you are Just 40kg…..
Hahaha ‘the pity ring’
Would you happen to know the part number of the park tool stand wedge
This is good, doing this "bike for x amount". Bikes are still crazy expensive for many many people. Keep doing thes vids i coukd watch them all the time. Alao how about Best womens bike for a grand too?
30:12 These are paving stones from my parking lot, I didn't have anything else on hand…
Read this with Schwanzenegger's voice in your head: I will be back
that is SO egg nog on the back of that helmet–in fact, 'Egg Nog' would be the perfect name for that helmet as it protects your noggin and it's 'natural white'
Bonus points if your rim brake bike has mounts for disc calipers
Welcome to New York! Where the bike culture has gone to the pits thanks to unruly delivery riders and overpowered Citi bikes 😥
