Damn…
Get well soon!
They’re crashing more because of the aggressive descending. There are many riders who have spoken about how it’s the standard now and it’s just a tragedy waiting to happen. The race organisers aren’t perfect but they’re better than they used to be.
He won't make the tdf
My heart goes out to him and that sweet family of his. His health is far more important.
I don't know why max didn't show this stage on Max in the US. Regarding Jonas—his injury is way worse than Tadej's last year because you can't even ride the trainer with brojken ribs. Tadej's crashe was a few weeks later in the season but this will definitelty affect Jonas at the Tour
I’ve broken twenty ribs over the years. Bike crashes, slip and falls, fights. They are an absolute misery for weeks.
Chris Horner had this video saying that the pictures are the only way for the relatives to know how the riders are doing, so he is heavily in favor. I kind of agree, but it leaves a super bad taste for sure. I switche of the coverage soon after …
Man I think this time of the year is cursed, last year we cannot forget gino and pogacar and this.
I wish all the riders a speedy recovery.
My doctor laughed when I told him I heal fast.
6 weeks to heal 12 months to recover
There’s no need to broadcast anyone that being taken into an ambulance! Despicable! Just simply callous to the family involved!
It really hurts to hear all these recents new, hoping they could all recover and be back on the upcoming TdF. Hoping this will be the last for these cycling crashes
This is so bad. I really hope the guys can get better before the Tour de France. There is no reason for this to happen and the organizers should be ashamed for letting them race such horrible roads.
Cycling is turning into Group B Rally Car racing
I do not understand why this spot was so "unprepared" it looked quite dangerous to me and the organization of the race is to be blamed for this lousy preparation !!
This concrete ditch itself was super dangerous in this very fast right corner on the left side exactly at the point, where a crash would lead riders to leave the street — it was super obvious !
And did they not see the potential danger of these big rocks there ? What bloody amateurs are working there to make sure that it is a safe race ? Riders could have easily died crashing into these big , completely uncovered rocks !
The teams also need to have a better check of the race course — why did nobody hint to this super dangerous spot ?
Collarbone is nasty for a cyclist, and hurts like hell at the time
Why does your thumbnail have to have a huge arrrow on it? It’s so cheap and clickbait.
You can’t make it any safer because the need for speed is part of the game
Yes, these photos should go out. If the teams try to restrict them, viewers will seek them out more. Jonas seems to have been immune to misfortune for years, unlike some of his top tier rivals. He was probably due some bad luck. It happens to the best. Pro racers are always at risk. He should be ok for the tour. He won't be in top form, but he'll be there with straps and pain killers to keep him comfortable. The life of a pro.
Wishing all those involved a speedy recovery…. my thoughts are that it's a good thing that they show what's going on at the crashes. A lot of family and close friends would be watching and there's no quicker way to get the information across than the live broadcast. Seeing the rider lifting a leg, or a 👍🏻 on the stretcher means a lot.
Past few weeks the Pogs chances of winning the TdF have multiplied to a near certain thing without having to push a pedal once in anger.
All Good for Jonas🙏
The pictures should go out, what concerns me is the lack of follow up reporting by the major official channels. No offense to you (thank you for reporting) but it is crazy that we should find out details from 3rd party commentary channels and have virtually no information from eurosport or the race organisers.
No TdF for Jonas. You cannot breathe deeply with broken ribs so he won't see a trainer for several weeks. The pain is insane for several weeks, even on drugs. I hope he didn't bang his head too badly, that can have longer term consequences.
Route's poor condition not safe enough for such high-level racing! Imagine F1 and MotoGP racing on bumpy routes!
Get better please. I hope your extreme fitness is helping. Take a long break to get really really strong.
It is beyond me, the mental pressure these Athletes must be going through when dealing with serious injuries. I think the psychological toughness in these kinds of situations is what makes these cyclist so elite. It is not as measurable as VO2max or power numbers, but it is, in my opinion, what truly separates them from mere human beings…I hope all of them make a speedy and full recovery, mentally and physically ! 🙁
These spring races ruin cyclist. Too much rain and bad roads in some these areas. The TDF is now wide open. Roglic and Pog looking like they wil be thr 1 and 2 on the podium.
Was Nathnael Tesfatsion in a crash too? Wish a quick recovery for all.❤❤❤
Wishing the cyclist involved a speedy and full recovery from this incident.
Regards showing the footage, I'm think it's important to do so, especially live . Family of riders might have no other way of finding out what's happening.
This season was lining up to be the best ever in so many races, now 2024 will probably be ‘the year that could have been’. Big shame for the riders and us fans. Get healthy soon guys.

Jonas Vingegaard got a punctured lung, acording to the main Danish Television/Radio station. 😢 Wish him a fast recovery with no implications.
Thanks for a good report and commentary. Seems that, as always, the crash is a collection of factors. Since the race was stopped I do not know, if sprint points/time bonuses were a factor as well. I do wonder about the awarding of bonus seconds at the intermediate sprint points. Because points AND seconds are up for grabs, it seems that there is very hard racing for these points from both GC and sprinters. Teams are more compelled to chase down a breakaway earlier because there is time on the line for the GC guys. Those point sprints are dicey, but it also seems that there is really aggressive racing for many k's before those points. i agree with other comments that if the course were harder given the new normal of field quality, that would help, and if there were no time bonuses at the sprints in a tight GC field, there would be less aggression leading into a sprint point. I remember the old days of the Giro, when there were no bonus seconds anywhere, not even at the finish. There is something to be said about the purity of such a GC win. Time bonuses make the racing more lively and aggressive, and of course with that come added risks. I wish all the riders a speedy recovery, and ask that all riders approach descents with, along with their competitive nature, caution. I was surprised to see, on a fast descent, the field four plus wide going into that turn.
Just sharing: our cycling team discovered that if you allowed yourself to rest for several days, let the bones start knitting together, you could very carefully get back on the trainer and have pedal sessions. Our speed to recovery improved from ~6 weeks to ~3-4 weeks. This is a complete recovery, but you could rely on the bones if you went out riding. Still some pain from the stress pressure of having your hands on the bars, but usually doable.
The doctors confirmed what we thought: the spinning exercise raised the injured cyclist's internal metabolism. The slight exercise, instead of lying in bed healing, activated the production of more red blood cells and other aspects of healing. My good friend Dave was out with us, doing a 45 miler 3 weeks after his broken collarbone. He might be exceptional, but others showed more or less the same accelerated healing.
Good luck to Jonas. First Wout and now him. Boy, what a start.
i raced for 25 years ,,,shiw it all good and the bad ,,,thats the game i crashed my self 2 months age and iam 63 years old iam still sore,,,,but li love my cycling ,,,,,Geoffrey Mcnamara l
As far as i can tell the reporters, especially the camera men, respect a certain distance, and give information rather than sensation. It would be wrong to give close-ups, or show cruel pictures. That officials want to improve safety is most welcome, and i hope they will bent more seriously over the problem from now on. They have made progres but evidently not anough. Maybe they will for sure, because how many great have been lost by accidents… And finally we had three of the four best… But as you say, the important thing now is that they will feel well again as soon as possible. God bless!
When the crashed they were doing 78 km per hour could have been way worse. He also has a pneumothorax and lung contusions.
