    Canness history dates back over two millennia, starting with the Ligurians, who were later displaced by Greek sailors. They founded the settlement of Marseille and spread their influence along the coast, including the area now known as Cannes.

    In the 2nd century B.C., the Romans took control, leaving behind artifacts and architectural ruins that can still be seen today. The Middle Ages saw Cannes as a fortified village under the monks of Lérins. They established themselves on the nearby Île Saint-Honorat in the 5th century.

    The modern development of Cannes began in the 19th century. When Lord Henry Brougham, a British statesman, discovered its mild climate and beautiful setting. His settlement and promotion of the town to his peers in the British aristocracy transformed it into a winter resort for Europe’s elite.

    The arrival of the railway in the 19th century further boosted Cannes’ popularity, making it accessible to a broader audience. The 20th century marked a shift towards luxury, culminating in the establishment of the Cannes Film Festival in 1946.
